Title: Mustang II frontend
Post by: Katz427 on October 23, 2019, 12:46:47 PM
I'm sure someone on this forum has installed a FE in a car with a Mustang II fro.  Looking at a 55 Ford with a Fatman stub. Looks like I would have to mount the FE higher and slightly more forward, mainly because of the front steer rack and pinion. Any experience with this?

I don’t feel like my mustangs engine is farther up and forward. I did have to notch the oil pan for the tube connectors.
Here’s the thread you can get an idea. Lotsa weird stuff cause I was thinking out loud but you can get an idea where the engine ended up. Page three starts showing engine placement.

Thank you! I read Marc's build again, and seeing that Canton makes a pan seems to fit well. The 55 Ford I looked at has a Fatman stub. The car was planned for a 302 but I would like to install an FE. Looks doable.

Tell you one thing I forgot to allow for is a windage tray. My engine as you can see is pretty tight to the cross member so it’s either gonna just barely fit or not fit. When I mocked it up it slipped my mind that I was going to use one. Oops. I’ll know soon as the engine is in the garage.

I put an Art Morrison Mustang II style front clip in my 64 Galaxie.  I did have to move the engine up a bit over the stock location, but if I recall correctly it was less than an inch.  I fabricated a rear sump pan to fit, along with the motor mounts.  No problems.

Hi,
I've got a Mustang II front end in my 64 Comet, with a 482 FE.  The oil pan is a Canton FE Rear sump road race pan.  If you're interested, I have quite a few pictures of the installation that I can send you, just PM me.
