Have any of you guys had problems with the connector that is pigtailed on the distributor? It seems after disconnecting it a couple of times I have issues with it. This is the second one that has acted up. Is there a quality weather tight connector that you have had success with as a replacement? Jim

Yes, those connectors MSD uses are terrible. I always use a ziptie to help hold them together if running the stock connector. If it's something of mine I normally swap it for a weatherpac/delphi or a Deutsch DT series because they're compact, high current, pretty weather tight and all the early Cat engines used them so I have a TON of them laying around.

I like the Delphi brand weather pack connectors. You can find them on Amazon.

I'm using a Deutsch connector on my distributor with Pertronix Ignitor III triggering a Digital HP box. I bought the kit from Summit Racing. Part# SUM-900420 They are nice connectors.

I use a conector from a Volvo 240 wire harnes from
a car my son scraped :D

Made it back to the track today. Car ran good (10.74 @124mph w/1.47 60ft times) today. Anyway, 2 times today I had to unplug and re-plug the MSD connector for the car to fire. Fortunately it only happened in the pits and not in staging. This is the last race of the year here in Minnesota so I will definitely be replacing that connector over the winter. Nightmist, you are going to like the digital HP box. I have the mobile version that works on my phone and it rocks. No dials to mess with just open the app and make your changes. Jim

The weather pack, delphi, deutsch are the way to go. But honestly a couple insulated spade connectors work quite well. Make one female and one male to prevent plugging them in wrong.

Yeah, it seems like a pretty good setup for the money. I haven't gotten to use mine yet, the build has been progressing slowly. It figures, at the time I bought mine, they didn't have the mobile version. That sounds pretty cool, though.

no problems with my plug but my plastic grommet where the wires come out of the bottom of the distributor got brittle and broke and now moisture is getting in on bad weather days

Haven't had an issue with the MSD type of two pin connector honestly. I've used that type of connector in a few places and not had any failures. The crank trigger on the dragster uses the MSD polarized two pin and has been in place for 3 years. I can guarantee that is a 1000% rougher ride than any of your nicely sprung door cars LOL. Most times I use a Weather Pack style connector. I did not know that Summit carried the Deutsch style, those are nice.
