I am trying to fit a Tuff Stuff 1G-Hybrid alternator to an aluminum Shelby block w/ TrickFlow heads and Edelbrock water pump, mounting the alternator in the high position.
Using the Ford mounting brackets and the gold spacer, the back bearing of the alternator hits the face of the head. Looks like it would need to be relieved about 3/16" - I really don't want to start grinding on the head.
I plan to run a single belt setup. I can space the alternator forward with a couple washers to get 1/16" clearance between the head and the back of the alternator, but that places the pulleys slightly out of alignment. Curious how much tolerance is allowed in aligning the pulleys. Google search shows 1/16" per foot spacing or .5 degrees max. But that is all for 2 pulley systems. Balancer, pump and alternator make 3.
I could cut a spacer to move the pulleys out on the pump and balancer but again, how close is 'close enough'?
To compound the measurement/alignment, the position of the groove to the face of the pulley is different on each of the three pulleys so you just can't line up the faces of each.
Any suggestions or ideas?
TrickFlow may have done a good job coming up with a head, but it is obvious they haven't put a complete motor together.

Hang the alternator downward and that keeps the head from being an issue. As for alignment i'm not sure there is such a thing as a Chevy within 1/4" or 10 degrees of parallel and they seem to work.

You will need both brackets for TE ( Emissions) for a low slung FE mount. Mansfield Mustang has them. I have a spare adjustment arm. You'll need the cast iron bracket.
On my Shelby I bought the polished Edelbrock pump. I had to grind down one of the ribs to allow the edge shaped bracket to clear the pump for my upright mounting.

It's not the cylinder head's fault, it's the alternator you're using. The only time I've had issues with the TFS heads is when the customer provided a special front motor plate and electric water pump that played with the bracket spacing, and even then, just the motor plate had to be clearanced:

I measured a set and a set of D2s, the Trick Flows are actually slightly shorter end to end, but not enough to matter. I am with Brent, likely the alternator shape
