I was forced to run another color on the hyd roller 461, but hoping to find a high quality black small distributor cap.
NAPA, O'reilley, Advance, Autozone all have blue or gray brass terminals, or really cheesy black with aluminum. Anyone know if a good black one is out there?

#948220 Taylor is a nice quality cap, but is a "maroon" color. I believe a person could paint it if needed....................

Here is one https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sdk-b7a-12106-a/overview/make/ford.
I got 1 from my local napa in july that was black with brass but maybe it was old stock.
Edit for new online search https://www.napaonline.com/en/search/ignition-electrical-lighting/ignition-parts-distributors-distributor-parts/auto-parts/mercury/cyclone/1969?q=N%3D2500001%2B2600101%2B5004600%2B200460370%2B10196900%2B404606100%2B599999900%2B50450600%2B50499900%2B2805253%26Ns%3DP_CatScatSequence1_1&referer=PLP&leftNav=leftNav

If you want to run something like newer 8mm wires, you'll need an male terminal cap. Either IH 304 V8 part. Fits Prestolite/Autolite distributor base (same as Duraspark, etc.)

Pertronix makes a stock look Ford Distributor, may be able to purchase just cap from them/Summitt/Jegs
I have 10MM Taylor wires plugged into it

Ross, I’ve been using a lot of Standard Motor Products myself. JMHO

rock auto as them

Standard motor products and NPD has a black one with the 1 on it that is concours and made by the OE manufacturer. It's got nice heavy contacts in it. The last Standard Ignition products cap I bought was light blue.

That's what I use on all my stock distributor stuff. Good quality and I haven't had any issues with them. I went that route because the last time I checked at my local Napa, I don't think they even offered the brass contact version anymore.

Why not use black dielectric paint ?

I bought the concours offering from NPD. The notch always seemed excessively tight and I had to bump it down with my palm to seat it.
The carbon core " Marti Autoworks" concours reproductions pull apart and the red boots tear when they are removed from the plug. Even when I use dielectric grease inside the boot in small quantity.
I bought the MSD Street Fire wires and ran them. The issue is the straight boots are a little long and the two center plug wires touch at the end of the boots.

I have seen issues with repop stuff, I ended up going MSD cap. As far as the wires, I have ABSOLUTELY seen those Marti concours fall apart in my hands on a J-code 302 build. Only good enough for non-running trailer queens IMHO (and I won't build those LOL)
I generally use the Taylor Spiro-pro black 8 mm when I am hiding on a stocker, then I have a small 5/16 Dremel bit that I open up the factory plastic looms and run them like Ford would. Works well and they are all black and don't jump out at you and fit the modified looms
Why not use black dielectric paint ?
I don't even really consider that an option I'd entertain, not worth the time I'd have to charge to prep a cap. Worse than that for me, one scratch away from those things we used to do as kids to scratch the black paint off of colored paper to make a picture in art class LOL

X2 on the Marti concours wires. I bought a set and they pulled apart before I got them on. They are not the same quality as what came on the car originally.
