Does an FE 4.5 look as such ??

Are you asking about how far the crank and rod journals are offset?  The lack of overlap?

Yes, the overlap :-)

Trying to find a pic of an FE long stroke crank

This has more inputs than you need, but it works.

Ricky, here is the longest stroke FE crank you are EVER going to see LOL!  4.750" stroke, stock main bearing size, 2.100" rod bearing size.

Mr. Blutarski, that overlap looks to be ZERO-POINT-ZERO on the big FE crank :D

Someone is making a 390 into a 490.

Can I install a 4.5 or 4.75 crank in my 390 block ??

An if so, a 4.09 piston would need to be custom made .. correct ??

Any vendors that can put a kit together as such and a rough cost ??

Mike Gaffney always told me to go big or go Home :-)

Going over 4.375" stroke in a wedge FE means you will likely run into problems with the shoulders of the rods hitting the cam lobes.  4.500" stroke can be done but some grinding or clearancing of the rod shoulders will be required.  The only reason I can use the 4.750" crank is that the engine is an SOHC.  No cam lobes to hit.

Ahhhh, thanks Jay :-)

EDIT: do rods with cap screws have more cam clearance than rods with bolts an nuts ??

I do appreciate all the answers an help to the questions I have asked here

Soon house/garage/yard will be finished an I can finally get to my 65 F100

I wonder if Jay has considered a flat-plane stroker crank? The vid below is long but it well explains the benefits and detriments of a flat plane crank. Seeing the huge FE stroker crank, I wonder how much lighter it would be as a flat crank. Given the benefits of the SOHC heads and high rpm potential, I wonder how much more hp could be achieved?

Interesting, but flat plane 90 degree V-8's trade a bit more horsepower for A LOT more imbalance (especially for big displacement mills like this one).  I'd be afraid of breaking the block at high rpm just from the inertia loads.

You also have to make a pair of custom SOHC cams to work with the new firing order.  Admittedly, the thing would sound awesome!
