Title: Noisy solid lifters
Post by: Saltshaker on July 27, 2019, 06:56:44 PM
I replaced all my pushrods after bending one and noticed the the ends of the Erson Rockers didn’t have plugs in them. I installed the plugs adjusted the lash and now have very noisy lifters and good oil pressure...75lb at 2500 rpm. The lifters were much quieter before adding the plugs to the shafts. Engine is running great just concerned with the chatter

With a solid lifter, assuming all you did was fix a bent pushrod, the only think that can make noise is having them adjusted wrong.

However, you could have not had the pushrod seated properly during assembly, or, maybe there was a reason the pushrod bent that is making noise.

Are all the adjuster screws about the same depth (at least all intake all exhaust)?

All are adjusted about the same. Comp calls the lash @.022 hot and I set them cold. 2nd, the oil was exiting the ends of the rocker shaftssince there weren’t plus’s in the ends. I now have plugs in the ends. Without the plugs you didn’t hear any chatter...

I think the Plugs are red herring,  re-check oh your valve adjustment and if it’s aluminum head go a little tighter  To .018.

I’m going to reset them while they are warm... are you suggesting to take the plugs out ?

Not at all, I am saying that the plugs likely have nothing to do with it.  More likely, you have some misadjusted valves.

Do you measure at TDC or use the EOIC method?

EOIC

My question would be why did you bend a pushrod and start looking from there. Coould be a bent valve, valve hung in a guide, hung lifter, etc... I'd do a compression test. I'd make sure the lifter that had the bent pushrod moved freely and was not going flat. That that valve spring off and make sure the valve moves free in the guide and not bent. Good luck with it, Steve

Your new push rods might be slightly larger diameter and hitting the rocker at full lift.

Good call on the pushrods... they are hitting. Question; is it nessary to enlarge the holes?
