Bolting in my new clutch and pressure plate today. The flywheel is a McLeod unit from my last setup that has been resurfaced. The disk and pressure plate are new RAM units recently purchased from a member vendor.
The disk would not fit in the same orientation as the McLeod it is replacing. It had to be flipped because the hardware protrudes on the opposite side, relative to material type. In the case of the McLeod, the organic face was facing the pressure plate, with the Ram, the organic face has to mate against the flywheel.
Will I notice any difference in feel or engagement?

Flat side of the disc always goes toward the flywheel.

If you put the disc on backwards, you will have engagement issues or the pressure plate won’t bolt on at all.

He's asking if it makes a difference on which side of the disc a particular type of friction surface is attached. Like ceramic facing the flywheel and organic toward the pressure plate or vice-versa. The answer is no. It's just a manufacturing process.

Brent, I’m not putting it on backwards...I’m putting in on the way Ram has made it to be mounted. The point is, Ram has the organic material toward the flywheel and McLeod has the organic toward the pressure plate.

I just couldn’t figure out all the talk about flipping it in the first post.

Yep, McLeod and Ram do it backwards. Won't make a bit of difference on pedal feel.
I like the idea of the more aggressive material on the pressure plate side, figure I'd rather eat the side I am going to likely replace, but the flywheel can be easily turned too.
I had same concerns a year ago or so, turned out to be nothing at all, no difference. Both sides grab at the same time anyway.

The disc is touching metal on both sides, so it will not make any difference. If you have a bronze insert on the flywheel, then it would likely get more aggressive if the metallic side of the disc were touching it.
