Title: Can this ring gear be used?
Post by: 6667fan on July 03, 2019, 09:47:06 AM
Looking at this for my Fairlane including track use. Have not shown it to the guy who normally swaps r & p sets for me. The roughness can be felt with a finger nail. I put fine steel wool to it to see if it would diminish already. Opinions please.
Thanks,
JB

Run it as is and don't look back. Have run much worse (drag only) in 12-bolts w/o any issues.

Looks like superficial surface rust.  Not a big deal in my opinion.

Any vehicle that sits for long periods of time could look like that til they get run again.

Nothing wrong from a safety stand point , the rust pits will not cause a failure. Don't expect it to be quiet though. In a race car , no one will know.

Wire brush or wire wheel it, may get some more off.  Otherwise likely fine once set up.
