Title: Small Bore head gaskets
Post by: RustyCrankshaft on June 13, 2019, 12:02:30 AM
Has anyone used the composite "pro seal" SCE head gasket on FE's? They offer a small bore version that's 4.175 with a compressed thickness of .040. I have not used SCE composite gaskets before, but it looks like a good option for a mild build if the gaskets are half way decent.

It's a long story, but the short version is I'm helping an older guy I know who can't wrench much anymore get his car going again while he can still drive. It's a 390 that had steel shims and there is a bit of brinelling on the decks so I'm not sure I'd trust going back with shims so the small bore of the SCE would help offset a little of the thicker gasket. Trying to get this back together as inexpensive as possible (it'll be mostly on my dime) and give it half a chance of living.

I think most of us are using Felpro 1020's. They are compressed .040 compressed. They seal well. I enquired here about them and the four who responded said that they failed early. I elected not to use them based on the feedback.
