Has anyone here used a Jones cam in there Fe?
-
I haven't but Mike Jones has an exceptional reputation. You will get what you pay for.

+1 one of the smartest cam guys I know.

I have three of his cams for my Y Blocks. Going to be dyno testing one soon for this year's EMC entry. I hope he is as good as some folks say he is. Time will tell. Joe-JDC

Just curious, about what else is out there besides the big major companies :)

Based on years of experience of building FE's, several of the builders here, including myself, can spec a custom camshaft for you.
I believe Blair uses Bullet and Barry uses Crane/Comp.
I use Comp Cams and Bullet, with Comp grinding the majority of my cams. Each cam is custom ground per the engine's needs and the customer's desires. Individual lobes are chosen, based on the advertised duration, .050" duration, lobe intensities, LSA, ICL, and lift to get where the engine needs to be.
You are wise in looking for a custom camshaft. I really don't see any shelf cams from the major cam manufacturers that work well for an FE, especially in the hydraulic roller flavor.

I can’t speak for Jones’ Cams but I tasked Brent Lykins to set me up with a custom hydro roller, (Comp) that would spin my 482 to 7K. He suggested combining the stick with some short travel Morels. Engine went to 7100 rpm before falling off. Some lighter pieces were used in the valve train, (titanium retainers, 11/32 pushrods), but it was not as light as possible.

Mike is a good guy and knowledgeable.. One nice thing is when you call you talk to him, not an order taker.. He has done several cams for me all performed as advertised . My EMC Lincoln Y Block has a a solid roller that he did for me.. He was only guy willing to take the extra time to mess with a one off oddball project like that.. Can be difficult to reach at times but just keep trying..He was on the Speed Talk forum regularly and had a lot of respect over there.

Mike owns and runs Speedtalk now.

There are HUNDREDS of people that grind cams all over the country. The trouble with the "small guys" is the level of their technology. They don't have a "staff" dedicated to design and development like the "majors" do. My local grinder does beautiful , accurate work , but only had 8 hyd roller masters to choose from so I had Brent get me a custom design from a "major" that had hundreds to choose from. I would guess about thirty more HP with what Brent got for me.
