What manifold is out there for a 6-71 blower ?
-
I don't believe there is a ready source for new Roots-blower manifolds. You can probably find one---perhaps partially fabricated---on the internet.

Most of the readily available FE blower intakes are fabricated from something like an Offy FE intake, where they machine off the top, then weld on a new top that the blower mounts to. Blue Thunder makes a dedicated FE blower intake, but my understanding is, like most Blue Thunder castings now days, they can be hard to come by. One other option would be one of Jay’s FE Power intake adapters with a 351C blower intake.

Good luck on the BDS manifold. They use to be supplied by blue thunder. Waited 16 months on one. Pulled the plug last September.
Even the Cleavland units are not so easy to come by. Seen a few but where being sold as a package.
For the price the speed master Cleavland blower intake isn't a bad deal. Do a little massaging and plop it on one of Jay's adapters. I ended up just getting the top plate and am in the process of building my own that will be FE specific.
Good luck on finding one, they do pop up used on EBay and such from time to time. Seen a few Cragar's and M/T's in the past. Dig deep into your wallet though.

Keith, are you building a blown FE ?
Could you imagine a FE with a 6-71 huffer popping out of the hood in my 427 Cobra with 700-1,000 HP ? lol !!!

Gathering parts, helping a friend with a 72 pinto pro street (late 80's style) . Doing a 390 with an older nos BnM blower. One of those kit deals for a BBC. Hes had it since 99 still in the boxes not un opened though cause you know the blower has been handled a few times lol. Trying to get parts together now. It's going to be allot of old Ford parts and possibly even iron headed but that hasn't been fully determined yet. Defiantly a budget build. I'm hopping by winter hes ready to get going on it. Thought I might post some of it as we do it in case someone was intrested at all. I don't know though, its gettin tuff here.

Don Hampton blowers in California has new manifolds and complete kits.
The last time I checked with him about 3 years ago a complete setup [6-71] for my 428 was $2800.00.
More then likely it will have a higher price today but his setup's really look good.
You can use a search engine to find his site.

Hi
I went to his website and a fully polished 6-71 intake for the FE engine is $1350.00.
The price list is on the bottom of the page.

lol,...I completely forgot about Don and his blowers. Big Daddy challenged The Goose to a match race, but don't remember which blower Goose used ? Maybe Weiand or Endrele ?
Anyway, I grew up in the 80's with the (remember "Pro-Street" cars (and shush..,..the "Hair Bands") lol
So racing was exciting. Started out helping a neighbor race his outlaw modified, then we bought a mimi-sprint, to a 125cc outlaw winged dirt sprint, then up to the big cars, the 360/410 winged dirt sprint cars.
The first car I built at age 16, was a Pro-Street Camaro. 468 (remember, "Ratt") with a Muncie, narrowed 9" (again, "Fatt's & skinnies")

A lot of people forget about Don because he doesn't sell on Summit or Jegs but though his own shop.
You really can't beat his workmanship, and his blowers never seem to wear out.
I bought a 6-71 system from him in the early 80's and put it in a 428 Ford gasser I built. It had a 428 0.030 over, 4 speed, 2 4's, Frankland quick change.
I sold it to a friend in Cleveland and he is still driving it.
Went from there to the dark side and into late models 405 cu in limit, 2400 pound weight limit, 1 4 barrel any CFM, any tranny, Gas or alcohol,
And safety equipment. Those were the rules.
It was a weird circuit with the races all over the south part of the country and the bad thing about it was Winner take all. The payout was $25,000 at the bigger tracks and $10,000 at the smaller ones.
It only lasted a few years but it sure was fun.
We managed to win enough to race but didn't make a lot of money.
The first car I built was a 55 Ford 2 Dr sedan, Hoped up the312 and then transplanted a hot 390-4 speed and 9 inch.
This was in 1964 so now everyone knows how ancient I am.

Be nice to see what one of his FE blower intakes look like and if there actually available.
-
Buddy sent his 6-71 out to Don a few years back for a refresh for his Windsor. Looked really nice when it got back. Unfortunately that motor saw the car. Still sitting in the corner of his garage all covered up. ::)

Ya know,... I'm getting old, but even though turbo's have taken over for some really good reasons, give me a blower any day. Nothing beats the looks, sounds and feel of a blower !
I love the nostalgic drag racing days at Topeka once per year, and on TV. Australia has them a lot on MATVHD which most are American bodied cars. Some great racing.

Yes it would.
I haven't seen ANY new FE straight valve or SOHC blower intakes in many, many years except those that use a sawed-off carby intake with a flat aluminum (or steel) plate added to bolt the blower too. I've wondered as well why nobody has sand-casted or today, used a Cad/Cam system to produce a copy of the original FE straight-valve blower intakes.

If it's okay to link to his site, are the Blue Thunder like Barry has listed still available?

Nope! Others here have asked multiple times and no dice.
-
Crap. I just remembered seeing it in my fruitless TP intake searches ;D. It looks pretty nice, too.

I keep looking at that one, but I'd swear he mentioned *somewhere* earlier that it has a crack repaired with JB Weld. Plus the job on the ovals make me nervous. :-\

That’s mine and it’s listed here as well. I would be happy to send you more pictures but I wouldn’t hesitate to run it for one second if I was building a TP. It’s nicer than one I sold for a buddy last year for $200 more!

Is an nos one for hi riser on facebook. Not cheap, but anyway...

Absolutely, shoot me a pm with photos (or I'll pm you my email address) and my apologies if I've mixed it up with another intake.

I have had one of those on backorder at Mustangs Unlimited for about 5 years now. They email me every once in awhile asking if I still want the order to remain active. Sure why not. For me that is the only blower intake to have.
-
Sounds like I'm lucky I bought my BT blower manifold 20 yrs ago? Wow...it's been that long now???

Mine came from Don Hampton and I believe by the research Ive done it was a Blue Thunder as well , the complete kit was 2650 , BUT that was 1986 ;D

I bet Jay could make a roots type plenum for his fabricated 2x4 intake that fits his adapter. Twist his arm and dish out the duckies and he may just do it lol.. no doubt it would be a really nice piece.
