The US Strange pinions have an undercut where as the Motive do not ??
Any opinions on what brand ring and pinion to buy ??
The 4.00 looks like it would be just right for my plans

I would check this place out. I have ordered a couple gears from them. I asked and they are re-boxed Richmod Excel gears. 8620 steel. I always deburr every tooth and stone the back of the ring gear. I had a 4.33 that set up perfectly, had no noise, and after a few hard street miles and a couple passes at the track everything still looked perfect.

As long as the undercut is equal to the groove root diameter of the splines there will be no difference in the twisting strength of the shaft. But having the undercut might reduce/eliminate the possibility of stress risers propagating from the machined edges on the splines.

Tom's Gear and US Gear are made in the US.
US Gear has some ring and pinions pre-broke in - at a cost of course.

Ford pinions were undercut as well . Richmond began the no undercut style. In the 50+ years I have been doing Ford diffs , I have only seen ONE pinion break in the under cut area and it was from a crash , not torsional twisting. I broke it while trying to straighten it ( incorrectly in a press , in my early days).
