This has all the hallmarks of a dumb question, but it wouldn't be the first I've ever asked.

Anyone recognize it? Is it on literally every FE head, and I've just never owned one this clean?
On the smooth end of a C7OE-K head from a mixed set.
I can ignore random initials, as I sometimes do the same, but the fancy oval gives me pause.

Same marking that is on the back of a ford cammer head... Interesting

I believe the “PB” in the oval logo is the mark of the Paramount Boring company in Michigan. They did a lot of work for Ford. As already commented, the logo is on the factory aluminum 427 SOHC heads, and I believe there are copies of the paperwork from Ford to Paramount to do that job floating around the Internet. I’ve seen comments from people with Ford Trans-Am heads with the PB logo stamping too. I think Paramount Boring later changed their name to Paramount Machining Solutions.

Thank you both. I see the other discussions and photos now. What an interesting little bit of history.

John ,
I've seen it on Boss 302 trans Am heads as well and was told by a retired Ford guy that it was the 'hallmark" of Paramount Bore exactly as thatdarncat said. "Short run" parts like race heads and blocks were done there because of the close proximity to Ford and the quality was a step above "production'' machining.

Would have loved to be a fly on the wall in that shop, Randy.
I haven't measured everything against a non-PB head yet, but I'm hoping they didn't do anything too fancy for them to be matched/paired.

The PB stamping is on my iron cammer heads too.

i might be completely wrong here. But. Is it or could it be Paul Beaudoine from pse? i am sure i destroyed his last name spelling but just for my own dumb curiosity.

Nope, Paramount Boring. There are people who have copies of the actual work orders between Ford & Paramount.

I learned something new today. i know a lot about fe but i have never seen that. thanks for the enlightenment

Not a chance! The hallmark is Paramount Bore , I got it from the Ford guy that approved the invoices to be paid. The Canadian CJ heads were machined there too.
