I am building a 427 for my 60 starliner. the block has no oil bypass hardware and the thread for the plug appears to be 5/8-18. Did Ford use a dedicated plug for this? Does it seal with a copper washer?Help!

A bypass valve, similar to what you see in a standard oil pump, was installed in that location at the factory. There was a spring behind the valve and then a straight plug screwed in to the back of the block to hold everything in place. Most people just plug that hole in the back, but Precision Oil Pumps has the parts if you want to use them; look to the bottom of the page in the link below.

I used to run an early 406 HP block that had the relief in it. I made a solid spacer to replace the spring and just relied on the pump relief. Good? Bad? Worked fine.
