Title: Calling '69-'70 Mustangs: quality door sill plates
Post by: machoneman on April 10, 2019, 11:13:52 AM
The gennie OEM Ford sill plates in my '70 were beat when I finished the car some many years ago. I purchased what looked like good repos (forget where now) but they were thinner, like a lot thinner, than the OEM stuff. Now they are pretty beat up and I'm looking to replace them. But it seems they are all cheap (i.e. thin) stampings that like my current ones bend just by looking at them.

Can anybody with real world experience point me to "OEM thick" replacements?

Pic just for i.d.'ing them:

You may as well look for Unicorns and Fairy dust while you're at it.
I had a set of the repros, and like all other repro parts, they are generally crap. As far as I know, like most parts, there is only one maker, and it's usually Dennis Carpenter. I put a set of NOS ones on my car when I did it about 20 years ago. I just took them out yesterday when I pulled the carpet back to cut a hole for the Long shifter and I was thinking they still like new, but I'm always careful to let people know NOT to kick them or step on them....not that many people ride in my car anyways. Sorry I'm no help, Bob, but that's the way it is with repro parts.

Thx Doug as I'm not alone here!

I've even considered buying two repo sets, adding a tad of silicone between them, gluing them togehter and bolting them in. But, side from the cost, I don't think they'd still hold up as methinks part of the issue is the metal used (too soft) and not just the thickness. Grrhhh!

Bob this might be your best bet, I have a pair of these for my 70 eliminator and are really nice quality.
Its a good thing cougars share a lot of parts with mustangs. Goodluck Dan

Wow they are nice my repos are thin. The body guy left my driver door a smidge low so it hits the sill. When I move it I will look into those.

The "Ford Tooling" ones are nice and more like the originals.  NPD has them, p/n 013208-4, $37.50 each.
