A while back (10 yrs) I sold a friend a 428SCJ long block. It was a std bore had the 428 in the water jacket 428 marked factory pistons. He just got around to using it and discovered that the block has no C8ME casting. The question is did some blocks slip through from either Detroit or Cleveland without numbers? Or could it be a mid 70s final run? I forgot to ask him if the date code is there.

Sometime around the spring of 1968 Ford stopped casting the partial engineering number (i.e. C7ME-A) into the FE blocks. Makes sense since it really did not mean anything anymore starting from the '64 model year. It was basically useless for ID purposes from then on. So DIF blocks cast from early '68 to '74 will not have any engineering numbers on them. The SCJs were not built until the fall of '68 so I would not expect to find any engineering numbers on their factory original blocks.
