Title: Carb recommendation

My 416 is moving along towards completion and I am starting to think about which carb to run. The engine is basic cast piston rebuild C1AE heads, 428PI intake, smallish solid lifter cam, C6 auto w/2400rpm converter, 3.50 rear gears, 28" rear tire. The car is a 64 Galaxie and will be street driven. I already have a newish 750 summit carb, but I'm not sold on the design. Any thoughts?

I'd try the Summit 750 carb since you have it and it is the right size, in my opinion.  If I were starting from scratch I think I'd get a Holley 3310.

I've got about 20, 3310EH and -1 carbs I could build.  They are perfect for most drivers.

I recently did a back to back dyno test with a well sorted out Holley 750 with all the latest tricks that had been compared to four different new Holley 750s, and there was 11 hp difference between the four Holleys.  Then an out of the box Summit 750, and without any jetting changes or anything, there was only 7-8 hp difference.  I did not take time to jet the Summit 750, simply wanted to know if it would perform decently.  I would not hesitate to use one for a street build, especially since it wont dry out as quickly as the Holley with ethanol fuel.  Joe-JDC

The Summits are the older Holley 4010/4011 series carbs.  I've ran a 4011 750 on a single plane street/strip engine and it was a good driver.  A cast piston engine isn't going to care about who makes more on the dyno, it just wants cleanly metered fuel.  The annular boosters on the Summit carbs meter very well at normal street engine speeds.

The Summit carb ran well on my truck, but has huge primary jets. It came with 77's in the the front, and 79's in back. I will put some smaller jets in and try it out.

Jetting is determined by booster style and venturi size.
This is why on the same engine, 65's will work with a 600cfm carb, and 72's will work with a 750.
With the annular booster I'd think it could be jetted down some, simply because the engine pulls harder on those boosters.
