Your right, post edited. I was thinking of my single barrel Nash carb I can't give away and won't throw away.

A Lot more than an FE

They weigh a bit more than a 460.

Jay's winch was groaning in protest when we loaded one on his dyno.

Are you sure it wasn't just JC groaning in the background?

JC finishes any comment about the MEL with the line:  Road hugging weight

That's me,  determined to swim against the current in the automotive world..
The MEL in stock form is a very smooth, torquey engine. There is a lot of mass there to soak up noise and vibration.

I've been curious for some time about how well a '58-'60 T-Bird runs with a 430 MEL.  It was an option   at least in '59-'60 that I'm aware of.  Not sure if any of them came with multiple carbs though.  I've seen several 430 'Birds for sale in Hemmings from time to time.  A 430-equipped T-Bird finished 2nd to Lee Petty's Olds in the first Daytona 500 in '59.

A 430 will run.  Video of a '58 Super Marauder taking on a 396 Chevelle SS in the 2006 Pure Stock drags.
