Title: FE Pickup Engine Mounts
Post by: 440sixpack on December 24, 2018, 06:27:08 PM
Does anyone know the correct motor mount orientation for a pickup ?   there are just 2 vertical bolts and it can go either way.  one way will move the engine about 1 1/2" farther forward than the other.   it wouldn't be a big deal to reverse them but I won't know until I'm trying to install the rear crossmember and by then it will be a PITA.

The only noticable things I can say id the hole on the frame perch is a tear drop shape, and above   ( or below depending ) the bolt on the mount is a bump.   seems that bump would go in the wide part of the tear drop ?

The other thing that may matter is there is metal above and below the pad on the mount backing. and there is a metal  rail on one side, either front or back depending on how it's installed.

This is a '76 Highboy if it matters.

Pretty sure a tape measure would be your friend here.

I have a 1972 with a fe, the bump goes into the top or wide point of the teardrop.  Also if they are ford nos motor mounts. or the original  they will say "top" on the mount, obviously this goes up.  I am pretty sure your 76 uses the same motor mounts as mine, but you could check parts book to be sure.

Merry Xmas
Matt

You also need a left and a right.

Most if not all have R and L stamped on them. The FE uses the perch position closest to the cab. The front position is for the I6 engine. Starting in 73 the original left side perch will be different to accommodate steering gear clearance.

I do have a left and right but they have no markings at all.   if the bump goes in the wide part of the tear drop ( up ) then I have them correct.  that seems logical but logic only seems to work 40% of the time.   thanks everyone.

Bump goes to the top, and stud will be towards the front of the engine. The bent over flange will be to the rear. Hope that helps. Rob

That's how I have them, thanks for confirming it.   seems like they could have  marked them,  but the Chinese guy who made them probably didn't even know what they were.

Hey, wait a minute! Those mounts were made by my Chinese cousin FEng. OK, so his eyesight ain't so great after decades of eating fake rice made out of plastic and drinking counterfeit Heineken brewed with formaldehyde, but he deserves kudos for being a team player. Or he'd be beaten and fired (or fired and beaten) and transferred via trebuchet over the Mongolian border. Poor FEng. Gets no respect. Like me.

Well, while you're spending time in Siberia, you ought to take a trip to the border just to say hi to him  :)
