Title: 428 crank key
Post by: happystang on October 18, 2018, 12:46:34 AM
Does anyone have a link or recommendation for a crank key? I'm missing the one for the harmonic balancer. I have the one for the crank spacer and it fits well.

I ordered this kit for the balancer key:

However, the key provided seems to be too tall, fits loosely, and is not long enough. It's also a weird round shape?

All you need is some 1/4" square key stock.  Cut off about 7/8" and save the rest for the next motor.  A good hardware store should have it, or you can get it from McMaster Carr:

Hi Jay,

Thank you for the link! Do you have any suggestions on what metal to go with? I see they offer a steel, alloy, and stainless steel key stock in both undersize and oversize.

Years ago I bought a foot of the alloy steel, standard size stock, available at the link above.  That's all I've ever used.
