Are auto and manual trans crankshafts completely interchangeable? Is there any difference on the back side of them?
thanks,

Exactly the same

On FE`s no difference. The 460s there was a difference. You had to check them.

I wonder why the guy who machined my 391 crank wanted to know what transmission it was going to be used with? I told him C6, but I am thinking about converting to a toploader.

Because a 391 crank is a different animal....and if you use a manual trans with a pilot bushing, then a special pilot bushing adapter needs to be machined and installed.

Thanks Brent. I guess should have mentioned that it was 391 crank in the first place. Is the bushing adapter something that can be made without having the actual crankshaft in hand?

Adney has them in stock. I know because he just ground a 391 crank for me and provided the adapter. :)

Thanks!
