So as most of you know my Mustang was my first car, and I was washing and taking care of it a few years before I drove. So today it was beautiful out 75 no humidity just a great day to drive to work.So some electrical contractor was looking at my car and he was all over it. So I go out there and he asks me if it’s my car yes I say and he says I have to have this car. So I giggled and said thanks and he said no really how much is it worth and I told him it was appraised for 69,000. So is it for sale and I Said no I was offered 75,000 and said no and without hesitation he he says I’ll give you a hundred thousand. Now of course I know it’s not worth that matter of fact it might not be worth the 70 it was appraised for but he really caught me by surprise I didn’t even say anything. He gave me his card and said if I want to sell it give him a call that he had to go he had a crew of guys waiting for him. So I spent the next 5 hours all twisted from this. My baby on one side and 100 grand on the other. So I called him and left a message with his secretary and she didn’t know if he would be in that she would give him the message. It’s all I can think about.

I would sell mine for 100K its my first car also. I would buy 2 more

Let her go.

Let her go.
Amen to that, there's a tipping point somewhere, might be time for a new baby and 50k in the bank-
-
I like building them more than driving them. Just think of what you could build with $100k.
-
Oh. And ask him if he likes 63.5 Galaxies
-
Ask him if he likes 66 Fairlanes. ;D

It will never visit you in the hospital or cook you breakfast AND getting there is the fun part. Start a new chapter with another baby and take a tour of Europe.
-
I understand your feelings i cant let them go eather but holy shipotle 100k :o....
Dont know specs of your ride but i wuold sell.
-
Sell! Buy 2-3 other cars, one new!
-
If you are 30 yo is one thing, but if you are 70, that's quite another. Sell & work on that bucket list.
-
I've got to agree with the others here. For 100K, you can build the absolute car of your dreams, and have money left over to buy another project to keep you busy once your dream car is finished.
-
Feel your anxiety. Don't know what it would take for someone to "buy" one of my toys. $100K would likely take one(or more). Years back that might not do it, but as I age priorities change and I contemplate selling things more.

Thanks guys, well he hasnt called me back so i guess he was full of crap. But ya never know. I havent called him
again either.

Usually gotta get’em while they’re hot.

I guess I stand alone in the fact that I would not sell my car for $100k. I've pondered this question a few times. It was my first car also, but beside the sentimental reasons, which are a big part of it, I built the car exactly the way I wanted, and of all the original parts that were not re-used, 99% of the replacement parts I used were NOS. I bought the majority of that stuff 30+ years ago, and I've seen the prices they get for them now. It would likely cost me pert near $100k to build it again (I couldn't afford to build the car today!), but I'm talking about an original R-code 4spd car, so that makes a big difference. Now if it were my Galaxie, it'd be gone before the ink dried on the check :)

The question I always ask is will that $100K [or fill in whatever amount] make any difference in your life. If you sell even if the amount is over any realistic appraised value of your car what will the money go to? Will it go into savings...will it pay off a mortgage, will it pay down/off hospital bills, will it buy the wife new drapes or add an addition on to the house...etc? If the money is needed where it will improve your quality of life or make a positive difference by all means sell the car. But if the money will just go into savings along with the current savings you already have then you need to decide if you like the car more than looking at a bank statement. But once sold that's it, your 'baby' is gone, never to be in your control. Some say you can always build another...true to a point but what if you [like me] no longer want to embark onto another large project and spending large sums of money. Others say you can always buy another completed car for less money. Then at that point you could be buying someone else's problem
and your new car will always 'belong' to "so and so" because he built it and not really your b.s.&t. that created it. Just my $.02 and worth every penny.

Well he still hasnt called so I would assume that he has changed his mind or was all talk. That being said RJP you are right I would have paid off college loans and then wouldnt of had enough money to by a car anywhere nears as nice as mine (I think)
and then get someone elses problems. But I was getting myself mentally ready to say bye-bye. But now I dont have to worry about it.

I know this is probably a closed issue at this point, but I saw it a lot like the last 2 posts from Doug and RJP. If I were in that situation, and the money wasn't seriously needed for some sort of financial crisis; then I wouldn't sell my junk for $100K. My junk isn't worth that kind of money as it sits, but it's worth far more than that in 30+ years of blood, sweat, and effort since I've done 99% of the work on it myself. And I did my truck the way I wanted to, it's still what I want (for good, bad, or ugly), and even if I had that sum of money I'd still want my truck, which I'd then have to build all over from scratch; and I'm too tired to do it all over again. Some people have multiple hot rods, so parting with one isn't that big a deal perhaps ...... JMO.

People are in a lot of different places in this evolution we call life.
Me? I'm 39 years old.... the idea of starting over on a car with less budget restrictions is appealing.
I certainly wouldn't feel the same way at 29,49, 59, 69 or 79.
Either way man, live your best life.
