Reminds me of my 65 F-100. Only it was half as fast, handled half as good and useually 25 years older than the others.
-
I wonder how many paying attention figured out this is a three speed.
-
I think I've seen a similar video of that car, but never saw the start and picked up it was a three speed.

Not till I saw this and watched the start again. Did the light weight Galaxies use the R11 overdrive?

my guess it is a T-10 4 speed. easy to break 2nd gear so you just start out in 2nd. With all the torque of the 427 you really don't need first gear except to load it on the trailer. He was nice and gentle on the drive train the whole race.

I don't think so. Watch how he keeps it in the same gear going slow around some turns and also down all but the fastest straights. I would think if that was third gear it would stall or bog, and a downshift would be in order.
I was thinking how ginchy it would be if, since they were used in trucks, that trans was actually a granny gear 4-speed, a BW or NP box. Shouldn't they be tougher than a Top Loader? Then I imagined the fun of that car with a starting line clutch dump in granny low, and the Galaxie getting black flagged for piling up too many competitors' cars on his hood. Weird. Maybe I should stop smoking that fungus I scraped off the south wall of my property. Maybe.

The wipers on that Galaxie looked like they were ready to fly off... definitely not aerodynamic.

Now that's badass.
