First, nice build. That is one heckuva torque curve...or lack of curve! Should be able to get him to the grocery store in record time.
Couple questions; One, why do you think you couldn't get the idle acceptable at a lower RPM, like on your engine? Just wondering if you had a theory to that. Second, are Mr. Munro's timing chains no longer being produced? I know you've used them in the past, and they were of a heavier design, so guessing that nobody picked up where he "left off", or are Mr. Ponds pieces of a heavier design also?

I think the extra 100 cubic inches of my 585" SOHC made it easier for it to idle a little lower. I could have probably played with the timing and fuel curve a little more to try to stabilize it at a lower speed, but 900 RPM was really where it seemed to want to sit, so I left it like that.
Pond's timing set is very similar to Munro's, and since Munro is incarcerated now I'm not sure if those parts are even available. Both of those sets used a full roller chain (unlike the non-roller chain used in the stock SOHCs and a lot of the aftermarket ones), and also the gears are machined for the larger 0.250" pin, not the 0.222" pin that the originals used. Basically, the Pond set and the Munro set were identical, although Robert's chain is supposed to be pre-stressed to eliminate most of the stretch. I think the Pond setup is just as strong as Munro's was, and I have no reservations about using it.
