Wow!

To the best of my knowledge, that is NOT the first Mustang sold. I haave read numerous stories over the years, that said that the very first Mustang sold was a white convertible, sold to Stanley Tucker of Newfoundland Canada, an airline pilot. Supposedly Ford tried to buy the car back shortly after its purchase, but Tucker kept the Mustang until 67 or 68, when Ford offered to trade him the very first Mustang of that year. I have seen photos of Tuckers Mustang in the Henry Ford Museum, still wearing its Newfoundland license plates. Seems some reasearch is needed to determine which was really the first Mustang.

I would not trust what a news channel said about anything .

I think the confusion is the lowest serial number production Mustang made versus the earliest recorded sale of a Mustang. Doesn't matter to me which is which, but there could clearly be a difference, and both claims be legitimate. Interesting historic vehicle; glad it is still around for the rest of us to talk about.

+1 Vin 001 is the first "serialized" Mustang and was sold to Tucker but it was sold "after" April 15th. The lady in the article bought hers before the cars were "officially" released for sale. The dealers HAD to have cars before they were allowed to be sold , and the dealer in this case ignored Ford's directive and sold it before they were supposed to.

I think Randy has it 100% right. Both have different, but valid, claims IMO.

The same situation exists in Shelbyland. 001 and 002 were race cars held by SAI and 003 was next in line but NOT the first car sold to the public. I'd have to look it up again but I think it was 004 or 005 that was actually the first car titled to a "customer".
