Dang, 2.55 is pretty tall for a gasser. What size rig is it going in and engine build? What are you going to tow? I had a '79 Ford F-250 4x2 with a 400M, c-6 and 3.07, it wouldn't pull the hat off your head. After I installed the aux. in my F-350, I went from a 4.10 to 4.56, however it was setup for the log woods, steep hills and heavy loads. What I found was 3rd and over was a power house gear but caused 3rd/main box to overheat. I used up several NP435's and B/W T18's

Yea it is tall. It won't be useable unless I am running empty at 80 mph @ 2,162 rpm. Running direct 70 mph empty or loaded would be 3.54 @ 2,626 rpm. That is almost like a 4.10 with overdrive (3.28). My thing was I like 3rd gear with the 4.10 axle. Living in the city 3rd is perfect for rounding corners 10 mph +. I wanted to keep that and have a tall overdrive.

Yes, 3rd/under will be great in town and 4th/under will pull a house. Then reverse/under will be great for backing up a load.

I've got a 6041 Spicer(4 spd box) in my Mack. Kinda small for it, but my truck isn't big power. Has 2.19 low low which is great for slow moving with my 12:1 1st gear in the Triplex and 4.10 out back. Makes for about 100:1 first gear! Ya, slow!
-
How is your speedometer connected? This unit didn't have anything on the output shaft except this plug and years of grease build up.
-
Mine has the complete gear set that you can attach a cable to, however the rear mount is in the way. I could have cut some out of it but just went with the main box. It is only accurate in direct.
I can't seem to post a picture of it.
-
Mine also has the threaded insert that holds the shaft for the cable drive(I can get a picture tonight). Not sure universal they are? I also run off my main transmission in the Mack because I have it converted to electronic pickup. You can now buy the electronic converter for cable style ends and I have thought to do that, but I don't run in OD in the box enough to worry about mileage discrepancy.
Here is when I was mocking it up. You can see the greasy spot on the right side where the thread insert is at. I put the cut off end of a cable in it to seal it off.

My box does not have a speedo gear on the output shaft. An alternative is a $300 box.
Thanks,

That gear box may have originally been installed in an IHC, a lot of them used a gear box in the front axle to drive the speedo. That eliminated the electric gear change box required with two speed axles. I seem to recall the early Ford Super Duties used the front axle also.

Ofcourse that is the one I would buy. I had a long search for a three speed with the better OD. I wanted the E suffix with about a 25% over and under. Likely one will fall in my lap after I have the drive shafts made for this one.

Is there a particular electronic adapter model you found that looks like a fit?

Something along this line.

You don't have the insert to screw this onto. Not sure how universal all that is and if you have the pencil gear inside to run off of? I think I have the manual downloaded at home for my 6 series box. Might find it online? You may be able to come up with parts?
I used this same unit on the Willys hot rod build I did for a guy to run an electronic speedo. That was on a TH400 transmission.

The screen shot is from the questions section of the link. It is the scenario I am in. I found a kit at Abbott. I sent Jerry some pictures of my transmission and should hear back today if his tachograph kit will work with what I have.
Thanks

On a side note I found that GPS is not always available or accurate. It seems in somewhat flat areas close to sea level the GPS works ok and only be 0 to 2. In the southwest desert area GPS can be up to 6.5 mph slow or unavailable. Seems reasonable to to think this is the case in any part of the world not at sea level or ascending / descending.

That question you show is someone with an electronic sender transmission trying to run a mechanical speedo. You are the other way around. You have a mechanical transmission and electronic speedo.
They do make an electric sender to power a mechanical speedo cable.
Like this:

Basically an encoder motor that turns the cable for a mechanical speedometer.

Nope. All mechanical. Just missing the tail housing gears. With the magnet kit installed on the output yoke I will need that motor to turn the OEM mechanical speedometer.
-
Ok, that's right. You haven't come up with the parts to run your mechanical speedo.
