but I really need to know what kind of fastener holds the centrifugal weights in place. this is a C5AF distributor and the weights were held by a horseshoe type clip which I know is not correct. If ANYONE CAN PLEASE HELP WITH INFO ON THIS It would be appreciated. Came out of a '65 390 4bbl. I tried a 1/8" c clamp but seems too loose, and is there a washer that goes above the weight?

I don't see anything in any of my books, and here is an example I found on the net

I took a new offshore one apart recently and it had plastic one use locks, which would be completely wrong for an original, but did have locks retaining the weights, and memory tells me that they could have used those one way starlock washers, but it's been a long while

Is there a groove above the weight for a clip? FYI, I would not worry too much about it as long as it's free and lubricated. It's not like it can come up, you can't see it, and the idea is just to make sure it can move freely. Tight can be more precise, but too tight and it won't do it's job

On the early 65 and older style with the deep body there is no retainer

I wholeheartedly defer to the man who knows distributors :)
