Title: Value of med riser heads?
Post by: GJCAT427 on March 20, 2018, 05:10:34 AM
Got a buddy who offered me a set of Med risers. Were taken of a motor a while back and he just offered them to me. I figured they would need a rebuild and wondered what to offer him?

Prices on MR seem to be a little varied due to scarcity and differences in condition as many are well used.  I’ve seen rebuilt examples ready to go with good parts go for $1800, as well as nice virgin bare castings go for $1500.  Useable sets with welding go for $450.  Not much help but looking them over to assess condition will help in narrowing down a price

I would guess date codes would be important too, with sets having dates that fall during vehicle production worth more than sets with dates after vehicle production ended, everything being equal.

Kevin is right. Used to be that any good set of BARE MR heads were worth $2000-$2500, but since the wealth of aftermarket heads have become available, prices have dropped. Nowadays, a lot of the value is based on date codes and whether they match or are desirable. Now, usable heads seem to be priced anywhere from $1000-$2000 based on the criteria above, with perfect 'ready to use' heads with desirable date codes being at the top of that ladder. The only people interested in them these days are restorers or idiots who just love to use the old iron....like me ;D
