Chris,
Sorry to hear of your loss. I read Your Son's obituary and comments of the people who knew your Son. Each of the comments showed how great a person He was and well respected by His peers. I hope you and your wife find strength through this difficult time. God Bless.
Scott

Incredibly horrible flu season and heartbreaking news.  I am so sorry to hear. God bless you guys.

I know times must be incredibly tough for you, but can you share anything that may show a warning?  We've been passing various versions of flu, cold and Adenovirus around STRATCOM and my own version is over 2 weeks old. Flight docs are treating symptoms and waiting it out.

We appreciate the responses and I wish I could share any signs or symptoms. What I know is he had an upset stomach over the weekend when he left. Monday night Josh told his mother he had congestion. He had his phone on him so we know if he had any idea how serious he was he would have called for help.

The information we found points out that with the unidentified strains out there that even some doctors do not know how sick their patients are. Sometimes Bronchitis and Pneumonia develope quickly.

We do not want to upset anyone or cause any scare. However a reminder of how fragile life can be and how sometimes you will just never know what the next day holds. Of the many things that helped was a few from his close circle of friends came to our home for his memorial and filled in some of the gaps in between our visits when he was in college.

As for how he was raised and his intelligents he got all the from his mother. He was 12 when I came into the picture but we worked it out.
Thanks for the thoughts,

It hurt to read your first post.  I'm so sorry to hear it.

I think to all of us with kids (especially smaller kids) the flu is a big worry right now.  Every time I turn the news on, a child has lost its life due to the flu.

Will say a prayer for your family.

Chris, with deepest sympathies for your loss and appreciation for your posting on this.  Something so deeply private and painful serves as a sobering warning to us all.

Very sorry to hear this, Chris. My heartfelt condolences to you and your family.

That flu strain went through the shop where I work. It laid up 3/4 of the people on our Grounds dept, including me. Took me a week to get over it and I lost 7 lbs, which is a lot for me being at a 140 lb normal weight. Everyone had the same symptoms that you described. It took me another month to fully recover and I still haven't gained back all that weight, and this all happened back in December. This year has been a really bad one for the flu.

Unfortunately this seems to be happening quite often...An acquaintance's wife was feeling poorly on a Tues. Went to urgent care, no fever, lungs clear. They sent her home. She went to the emergency room on Thurs and was dead by Fri morning.. This is scary stuff.

No words - only prayers.

We're on the tail end of a week of it.  Wife had upper respiratory issues for a couple of weeks so was down a bit going into last week, I had a little congestion last Tuesday.  Fine Wed morning, fever by night.  Got to doc next morning but too late for TamaFlu so had to go on tuffing it.  Then wife had it full on by Saturday so back to doc and now TamaFlu for both.  I should be back at work tomorrow - no fever in over 24 hours.  Wife down from 102 Saturday to low grade, just miserable.  Both had shots early, thought we'd make it out the back side - nope.  I have never spent more time stuck to a couch.  Ass kickin' SOB.  We are generally healthy and can't remember the last time either actually had "flu".  Everyone else has been whacked around here, so we were pretty much wondering when it was going to be our turn.

Just everyone do your best to take care of yourself and loved ones.

>Sometimes Bronchitis and Pneumonia develop quickly.
Wife had bronchitis and was already on meds for that.  So possibly a bullet dodged.  Mine never got that bad but as soon as I feel ANYTHING in my chest I start on 12 hr Mucinex.
