Title: BEST FE Clutch Fork, Throw Out Bearing, Adjustable Rod, Spring & Dust Boot?
Post by: 427HISS on January 30, 2018, 10:04:14 PM
I'm needing to finish up my clutch system. I have a new aluminum fly and dual disk clutch.

What is the best setup for the Ford 428 with a QuickTime bell ?

Need the external slave, fork, throw out bearing, adjustable rod, spring and rubber dust boot. Etc ?

Fortes Parts Connection. Click search in upper right corner of page, enter "slave". Website is not user friendly. I used this & it worked well with my twin disc setup.

I wrote slave in the search box but it direct's me to our conversation here ?
I don't see any shifters, clutch parts (except a boot) info on his website.

I'll call him, but I wanted to see what he has and prices beforehand.

Sorry, all I see is a pressure plate under the clutch kit or elsewhere ?

I guess I'm confused. What's the difference between a internal & external  hydraulic clutch that so many people complain about ?
Is one type a lot better/less pain in the a☆☆ ?

I've always had the manual fork type.

It's possible to use a throw-out bearing in which the hydraulic actuation is within the bearing itself. The line from the master goes inside the bellhousing and directly to the TOB. Some people don't seem to like this arrangement. Seems to me to make sense.

I first used a hydraulic clutch on my flathead '34 Coupe. I used a Ford master and a Mack truck slave. The slave actuated the 'fork'. Worked just fine.

The problem with an internal hydraulic throw-out bearing is that if it develops even a small leak, it will toast the clutch and require a trans removal to fix the problem. With an external type, the problem is much easier to deal with.
