Title: Suggestions on source for racing C4 transmission
Post by: billtroth on January 21, 2018, 11:25:42 AM
I plan to  run a C4 in my car and I am looking for a good competition transmission.  The well known alternative is Performance Automatic for a source but I have also heard good things about Joel on Joy, Broader, Coan.  My car is a strip only '64 Galaxie NSS car so no transbrake.  It weighs about 3,500 lbs. and 427 stroker puts out about 550 h.p. at flywheel.

Does anyone have experience or information on  a good source.  I searched and saw Jay's post on the C4 he ran in his SOHC
car and I'm leaning toward Jay on Joel.  I also need anew  torque converter so Coan could do the whole package.

Thanks in advance for any input.

I have a Dynamic Racing C4 in my ‘64. Been good so far, but hasn’t seen a lot of track time yet. They were pretty good to deal with.

Hey Bill, try the phone.  Shawn will most likely answer.  He is Joel's right hand man, and knows his stuff also.  If you get the machine, just leave a message.

Hi Bill,

I have a Joel's C4 in my race Fairlane, plan to have it at the Meltdowns this year.  The trans has worked flawlessly, very happy with the purchase.  Good people to work with.

I use Broader for C4 parts I can't get locally, which is about everything.  Freakshow does my converters but I do most of my own trans work.

The first time I read this, I read "I plan to have it meltdown this year". I did a double take.  ;D ;D

Blair, thanks for the information on Joel onJoy.  I spoke to Shawn and he was very helpful.  He shared some great information on C4 tech. .  I had never heard of the electric neutral he said they offer.  I wish I would have had that feature about 9 years ago when I windowed motor going thru the lights at about 115 m.p.h. and all I could do was hold on and listen to the carnage.

I'm pretty sure I will go with them if they can get me the trans in time for the meltdown.

Thanks again for the lead.
