Title: BBM cam bearings
Post by: GJCAT427 on January 20, 2018, 02:09:14 PM
With the new iron BBM block on order, what cam bearing are needed? I`m trying to get all my ducks in order so when I get it I can assemble it.

I copy and pasted this off a former thread for myself. I think it was Mr. Lykins. Not sure though.

BBM block
Cam bearings are a special Durabond set.
Check distributor clearance
Check distributor oil feed from #1 cam bearing.
With a penlight check that all the oil feeds are lined up.
Use a lifter slid into the bores to make sure no cam bearings make contact. #2? Bearing may be close.

Use a Durabond FP-01 bearing set.

You can either use the front cam bearing in that set, or a front cam bearing from a standard FE set.  If you use the FP-01 front cam bearing, it will have to be clearanced for the distributor gear.

That FP-01 uses wide bearings and you have to be very careful about how far you drive them in.  The bearings are wide enough that they can block a lifter.

Yes, I got your info.

Pistons are made for the bore size, so all I need to know is the desired finished bore size.  The clearance is built into the pistons.
