Title: 434 inch Clevor in '69 Mustang....
Post by: blykins on September 11, 2017, 07:11:26 AM
Very proud of one of my guys from Wichita.  About a year and a half ago, this was a full street '69 Mustang with a 408 Cleveland.  He has went from full street to full race and I'm proud to see how much work and effort he has put into the process.

This engine is one of my 434 inch Clevors.   Brian is still in the tuning and tweaking stage, but this past weekend he nailed down a 9.707 @ 140.27, a 9.703 @ 140.98, and finally a 9.671 @ 141.38 by raising the shift point to 7500.

This season has been devoted to getting the car and suspension lined out.

This is a drag radial car, with a Powerglide behind the 434.  His goal was to eventually spray, so the PG is running a 1.56:1 1st gear....this would be similar to taking off in 3rd gear and then shifting to 4th with a Toploader/TKO.  It's very soft out of the hole but comes on like a mad-man once it gains some momentum.

To show how soggy the launch is, he's running a 1.45-1.50 60' time......... :o

Awesome, good job to both you and the owner.

I'd like to see him touch the 8's naturally aspirated next season.  I think it would take a re-gear of the PG and dropping a few lbs, but I think he could do it.

Here's the car in street trim, 4 years ago with the 408 Cleveland I built him.

Very cool Brent. Maybe some general engine specs.? Heads, block type, intake, C/R, etc. No cam stuff if it's top secret!  ;)

It's a Ford Racing "Boss 351" block, on a 9.200" deck height with .903" lifter bore bushings and roller cam bearings.  It's 14:1 with coated Diamond pistons, Crower rods, and a Callies crank.  Ported CHI 3V 208cc heads (not 208cc anymore, more like 250), with a CHI 3V intake, running a Super Sucker 4500/4150 spacer/adapter with a 1050 cfm Quick Fuel Dominator carb on top.  T&D shaft rockers.

The cam is actually a little on the mild side for a 434 inch drag race engine.  It's on a 55mm core, .050" durations are in the 260's/270's, and it has a little over .800" lift.  :)  It made 780 hp @ 7000 here with that cam and I have another one here, that if he keeps with the naturally aspirated theme, will get it up over 800.

I'll see if I can find a picture of the engine, but I'm sure Photobucket stole it.

What's cool is that he was running 10.70's with the 408C and a C4....basically the way you see it in the second video I listed.
