I have a stock looking (except for FPA headers) 390 4V about to go back into my Z code. Many parts were lost before I bought the car, but now I have almost everything. It seems the stock bellcrank - this is a CruiseOMatic car - hits the air cleaner, exactly where it has a clearance indent. With the stock parts, this should be retained where it will not interfere.
I have located the two return springs; one from the bellcrank to the firewall, and the other from the bellcrank to . . . ?
The service manual shows a small tab near the front of the engine, but not if it is mounted to the carburetor or a bolt on the intake or valve cover. This is a 9 3/8" or so extension spring, so I was hoping someone might know.

my is mounted to the middle valvecover bolt on a washer with a tab with a hole

Thank you. I will be looking for or making that part.

My '63 with stock 352 2V and Cruise-o has the return spring hooked to a tab mounted to the intake bolt which is just ahead of the top center valve cover bolt.

Went out and looked on my car Bruce and that make sense
its a straighter line to that bolt. I just put it back where it was
without thinking. Thanks

Does this look like any of the commonly reproduced Mustang brackets, or is there something unique about this one?

I have just a thick washer under the bolt with a...."wing", " tab" or what i shall call it
that's slightly angled upwards with a small hole for the spring
-
Sounds like the one on my car; a hole on one end for the intake bolt and a small hole on the other end for the spring. The tab is bent so that the end with the hole for the spring is vertical. Distance between the 2 holes is about 3/4" or so.
