Id like to get some info, suggestions, opinions on a basic, easy to use and install system. Looking for something to use on a budget 671Blower-FE build.
Faron had a system on his mustang with the FE+Blower combo at the FE reunion.

I should do this too. I'm really hating these new points(ya, I know) and how weak the spring is. Won't go to 5K without breaking up.
I need to upgrade badly!

Shoot if you find a way to "budget" build a 6/71 blown FE. let me know!!! I have wanted to do that to mine since I got it and everyone has told me to forget it unless you got deep pockets!

;D
Ya, thus I leave the old '64 points distributor in the car...... :-[. It runs well enough to cruise it around. I guess if it ran better then I might hurt the 1968 cast pistons that are in it :o
OH, you are referencing the build itself. Ya, I got my together 20 yrs ago when things were "cheaper". Not. I surely wouldn't want to have to buy it now though. Mine was on a bare budget and thus it has stock cast pistons and a single point distributor.

LoL, well its not my budget, someone else's Dime. We been accumulating parts for a while. Nothing to serious, just trying to replacate what he had back in the 80's only with an FE this time. Old 391 truck block, some heavily worked hand ported iron heads, 391 steel crank i scored at the FE reunion. Hes got a re built blower from a big block cheby guy. Opened up the BB Cheby crank drive to fit the fat 391 snout. Lots of old left over parts, still need pistons, rods and make a decision on what route to go on the intake manafold. May use a 351c and one of jays adapters.

Faron and I both use the Electromotive HPV-1 distributorless ignition on our blown cars. It's a wasted-spark ignition, and I personally have had no problems with mine. I don't think that Electromotive still sells the HPV-1, but they do sell an updated system. The HPV-1 system uses GM 2 post coils, and is compatible with several different parts-store crank sensors.
Computronix also sells a distributorless ignition with 2 4-post coils (one for each side of the engine) that I probably would have gone with had I not found a used Electromotive set up for a good price. I believe Tom P saw one of these systems at Hot August Nights in Reno a couple of years ago on a blown FE powered car. I emailed him and he said that the Computronix "distributor" would fit below a roots blower without a spacer.

I googled up Electomotive and found their XPI200 system. Not hateful at $600. That is just a tip of the iceberg I think? Coil packs, pickups, etc would about double that cost in the end I suppose.

The system I saw was on a yellow 67 Mustang, the coils in the frame below the headers were hard to see.

What does Jay's set-up use? I know he has COPs.

Whenever I've gone distributorless its been in conjunction with an EFI system. I gave a detailed description of how to go distributorless with carbs in my 504" dyno mule thread in the Member Projects section. The problem with doing this is that you are paying for a whole bunch of capability with an EFI system, and not using it all if you just use it to go distributorless. There's got to be a better way, without going to a full blown EFI box. But, I don't know what parts are out there to accomplish that...

Doesn't MSD have a system meant for carb'd LS engines? A standalone 8 coil setup?
