Title: BBM block dimensions
Post by: preaction on August 25, 2017, 08:25:28 PM
Should there be any clearance between the first main cap  and the sides of the register in which its installed and tightened down not torqued down and without a crank or bearings ?

No, it's an interference fit.  It will be tight against the registers and will be tight on the dowels.   You will need a slide hammer to pull the caps before and during mock-up.

Thanks Brent my first and last main caps can fit a .020 feeler on both sides. I will post  some pics.

I should have read better.

1st and 5th caps will have clearance.  The middle 3 will be pretty stinkin tight.

I have one on the stand right now and my 1st and 5th caps have .020" clearance between cap and block too.

The first two are the front cap last two are the back cap. What are my options?

Good as that's what I have too, I thought all were close fit.

Does anyone know of a reason for the clearance on these caps (1&5) and not a tight fit for the front and back  ?

Doesn't need to be.

The middle 3 take the brunt of the stress and they are cross-bolted, so they have to be very tight against the registers for when you torque the cross bolts.

First and fifth caps are doweled and studded, they are not going anywhere.
