im going to go see street outlaws at bristol dragway today,wish i could take my comet,maybe next time

I saw it looks like Jeff Lutz is going to be there with his new '57, should be interesting to see how it runs. It will be a good pre-Dragweek shake down.

If it is anything like when they brought two of those guys to Magnolia a month or two back. Ya, well, glad I didn't pay good money. Pretty lame to see them just drive like they were going to the store. Granted our little 1/8 mile track isn't prepped for those kinds of cars, but they "supposedly" are set up for....ahem, "street racing". (ya, whatever).
I went to see some buddies that were running that day, and they were suppose to pick a couple to run against the "big boys" from TV. They screwed around, took forever to get their junk up to the line. I left long before the real racing started.
I wouldn't know any of them if they wore name tags. My opinion......"Nothing to see here......please disperse....Nothing to see here".............

It's supposed to be some kind of $100,000 to win race, but I hear you, I take anything involving that show with a grain of salt. But there is no denying how popular it is. ( Forgive the picture )

LOL...NHRA needs to take notes.
I live 7 min. from Bristol and you couldn't pay me to be there today. Lot of leftovers from the NASCAR races this last week/weekend. They should have done this last Thurs. and charged 10.00 a head. I heard it was a 32 car field and 100K to win. I think it's either the last show of this season or the first show of next season.

It was only a $1K to win if you beat one of the Outlaw cars. There were a couple fast local cars running and I can't recall who won? I know one fast Gremlin that had issues and couldn't make any passes. Friends from way back in the day and their stuff is FAST(yes, amc powered). It's been 160 mph+ in the 1/4! Not bad for a stock chassis, 10" tire car! Another friend has a turbo mustang that runs in the 7's, but he was still down with a new build and couldn't make it.
They had a similar thing at Quaker City about a month previous to Magnolia. It had a HUGE turnout of spectators, which is money in the pocket of the racetrack and why they did it.

My son recently went to a 'No Prep' race with all the "star attractions". I won't go into long details, but he was pissed with how lame it was. And like Larry said (my son described it just as Larry did, lots of loud mouths spouting off with very little racing), most of the guys weren't even breaking the speed limit going down the track because they had "other commitments" they had to make and didn't want to hurt their cars. I would have told them I'd go grab my 77 year old Mother if they were too afraid to run their cars.
Lame.
But to be fair, he said Larry Larson was there and was super awesome to talk to, very friendly (unlike the others), and actually ran the hell out of his Nova.

That's the deal and it's good for the track. We had some of them stop in last year for a door car race - Doc, Birdman, a few others. Good gate for the track. We prep, our track owner will not run a no prep period. No tearing up shit for short term profit. What was impressive was how quick they dialed in the cars. Few hits during TnT, then a couple of full runs to ladder the cars and boom, off they went. No times but I download the track data for backups and the ETs were impressive. We're at 1719' MSL and DA here is usually 4500+, so to see a "street car"/door car type run what ProMods used to do here shows they are no BS.
Good show all around and the guys were straight up decent people. Good with the Nosss type kids too. :)

These were "prep" races, as I don't think either track wanted the mess like what happens at the real no prep races.
The Outlaw guys just pedaled their cars easily down the track. I know they have the power to go fast. For cry'n out loud they are full blown pro mods with license plates bolted to the rear wing. I know what it takes to get 2000 hp to hook up and it ain't happenin' at Magnolia!
I think the fastest I saw from our local guys was mid/hi 4's? Nothing to sneeze at for just door cars around here. I can remember back when Magnolia reopened. They had a big deal about "the 4 second club" and we had one dragster do it back in late 90's. That was fast for around here 20 yrs ago. Today it's nothing.

i had a great time,it was a no prep race,the first few cars down the track wrecked and spun.chief won 60,000,bird boys came in second for 20,000 and chuck and shane won 10,000 each for the semi-finals.they were wicked fast,i was surprised.early they all had to pedal,but when the sun went down they started hooking.i got my pic made with shaun-murder nova,dominator,doc and monza.they were 32 cars and it was real no dought. shane wrecked the blackbird vega in the semis,tore it all to hell.they blew engines on the big end.for 100,000 i do think this one was for real,but i cant speak for someones else's past experience.its going to be on this seasons finally.

I wasn't trying to imply that they're all imposters or wimps, there's certainly enough video out there to show how wicked fast these cars are, and the pedaling that some of those guys do can rival John Force Funny Car stuff. Seen some pretty amazing saves on the YouTube videos, but I'll admit, I don't get why they'd risk life, limb and cars on 'No Prep' and fishtailing the entire 1/4 mile at 200mph.
Like Keith said, you had a good time and saw some good racing, and that's all that matters. If some guy wants to crash his $100,000 car, I'll gladly watch him do it ;D

I heard the track sold out and the fire marshal closed the gates to spectators not long after 6:00. I was told this has only happened once at an NHRA race in the history of the track.
