Checking the results online I see there are two FE's out of the three cars heading into the semi-finals today up at Brainerd International Raceway in Stock Eliminator. Ben Line in his C/SA '69 Mustang and "Wild" Bill Feist in his A/S '69 Mustang. I'm not sure what the semi-final matches will be, but it should guarantee at least one FE in the final. All three racers left are "locals", Dan Jeska in F/SA is the third, and all have good cars capable of winning. It will be fun to see who pulls it off. Wish I was up there today.

Hopefully Bill or Ben will win it! Would be cool if they both make it to the final for an All-FE/Line Engines final round. Good, hard working racers up there.

Yes!!! All FE final round coming up. "Wild" Bill got the bye into the final, Ben beat Dan Jeska. Here's a screen shot from NHRA website of Ben's run, looks like he was a machine that pass. Ben & Bill are both super nice guys.

Ben Line gets the win! Fox Sports had the Stock final in the TV coverage today too. The show will repeat over the next couple weeks on the various Fox Sports channels, check your local listings.

Years ago Bill was to race Jim Waldo in a latter round heads up.Lance Line's engine had way more power.To see an engine swap on a Stocker was really cool. There had to have been 10 guy's getting things done.There sat Bill's engine in the woodsie pit's of Brainered all alone draped in blankets and me eye'n it.

Does anyone know what the difference in engine combos is Both FE's , I know Rusty Johnson runs C stock with a 67 coupe and 390 , so what do these guy have ?

Both of these cars are 428 CJ's. I don't know which heads they are running right now, which can effect where they are classed by NHRA. I know Ben ( and his brother Lance ) will juggle the class they run occasionally for various reasons, you'll notice in my picture from earlier this year he was running B/SA. NHRA generally allows you to move up or down one class from the "natural" class the car falls in by adjusting the weight a little bit from the specified shipping weight. If Blair Patrick is reading this maybe he knows more about which heads Ben & Bill are running. Steve P. may know too.

Ben looks like he would have been tough to beat even on a near perfect run. Great reaction times! That would have been a good one to see.
I saw the comment about contingency awards being lost? How exactly does that work? I've gathered you have to have a sponsors stickers on your car and if you win, you get the money from that sponsor? Is that right? I'm not a fan of stickers plastered all over a car, but that's some serious money lost.
Trying to understand how the whole Stock class works with their different rules, regulations, class shuffling, weight penalties, HP factors etc. is a bit mind boggling to say the least. It takes some serious learning/repetition to get a real grasp of how it works.

Bill had run the Dove "F" heads in the past,I'm not sure of the current combo I had just saw the car two weeks back ::)edit note....I must be an F head not remembering.

I have a little experience with NHRA contingency after making it to the final round at the Division 5 ET finals a few times. Yes, you are supposed to have the decals on the car, although occasionally a company will pay without the sticker, but that's rare. And yes, some people just don't like the stickers all over their car, but then they give up the chance to collect that extra money. How much a company posts varies, and the amount varies if it is a Divisional event or a National event. A win also pays more than a runner-up. Generally it is around $50-$500 a product/decal, you've seen how many decals some cars have and that can easily add up to thousands of dollars. Things may have changed a little, but when I was involved if you made it to the final round a NHRA tech official will come around with a clipboard and a form and go through with you and check off the decals you have, and if the product is visible, like for example tires, verify you have the product. You sign the form and they send it in to the various companies. A few weeks ( or months ) later either a check shows up, or some companies will send a form to require more proof of running the product, like a copy of a purchase receipt, or in the case of something like a trailer, a copy of the registration. Some companies you register with ahead of time so that they have the info on file. For Summit, which sponsors our ET Finals, you had the decal and showed them your Summit logbook. At the beginning of the year NHRA used to publish a list of what was required for each company, it's probably all online now. When the economy was bad about 10 years ago quite a few companies pulled out of the contingency program, so it's not quite as lucrative anymore, but still significant. I will add, for me the company that always paid the quickest was Calvert Racing for my CalTracs. I think John Calvert believed in taking care of the racers, being a racer himself.
Ben Line also won the NHRA Divisional event at BIR the week before too, so yes, he gave up a lot of extra money. Ben has won the Brainerd Raceway Stock/Super Stock season championship a few times, he is an excellent racer, as is his brother Lance.

Thanks for the explanation, Kevin. Sounds like a bunch of hoops to jump through, but money is money, and it'd be hard to pass that up.
