Title: Progress on the 390
Post by: George vega on August 12, 2017, 12:39:43 PM
As I posted before, my final choice on the budget 390 short block was to keep it stock. The cylinders will stay standard as well as the crank, rods and pistons. I have started taking my old motor apart and mocking up the 390. Here's a few pics.

Sorry for the double post. I tried to delete the second one but couldn't do it.

What pistons are you planning, curious as to what size bore you end up with after cylinders get restored straight and round.
I also like to try and keep the bore standard too if all possible.

I'm going to re-use the original pistons since they are in such great condition and the bored are within tolerences so they will need a good honing. I'm trying to use this wear cycle of this short block. Next time I'll get some good 410 pistons to go with my good 428 crank rods and cross bolts.

One (428) comes apart and the other (390) ford together. Still got a lot off work to do.
