what would be the perfect oil pressure for a street driven fe.cold startup,hot startup,hot under load? not too high,not too low,just rite

25-30 hot idle and 65 hot at full song is all anyone needs.

I agree with Boykins. My 463 has about 30 hot idle, and 75 at a full pull. 65 cruising at 70mph, at about 3300rpm.

does restricting the rockers normally change the overall oil pressure.if so does it raise or lower

No , it just keeps oil where needed , bearing clearances and oil pump bypass spring controls pressure

I would want 80-85 if you have FE rod journals and spin it more than 6000 rpm. The large diameter and narrow width will live better with more pressure if you spin it up.Otherwise, 65 psi max HOT is a good number. Bearing clearances and lifter bore clearance can effect idle pressure. I also think very loose rocker clearance in a top oiler system can make the #2 and #4 mains and the #2/5 and #4/7 rods experience lower pressure, but you'd never see that on a guage reading off the filter bracket. Lifter slop can be a huge bleed on the system, and often is the cause of low idle pressure when all else is set up just fine.

What ever happened to the old 10psi/1000 rev rule? With clearances near what FoMoCo specified and a M57 pump, at 6000rpm my 416 has 65psi hot. 15w40 Rotella. Idles at 30psi. Hydraulic flat tappets. Rockers restricted with a #70 Holley jet.

I like mine higher then most a long time ago a dirt track racer told me if you want to make a fe last.You had to get the pressure up he said he learned this the hard way.I still have some factory pink 100 lbs oil pump springs My last one has 80-85 hot at 6000

i didnt know,i have 80-85 cold but goes down to 75 when warm,idles at 55-60 warm and 75-80at wot. and ive blew 3 cheap gauges in the last year

Seriously, we ran an old 302 for two years with 10 PSI cold, maybe 5 PSI hot (gauge just off the pin a hair) on 40wt, no problems.

So true Chris, my daily driver 76 F100's 390 makes 5-6psi hot idle.
No noises, runs great, been that way for years.

Those pressures seem low I have 80 cold and about 20-24 hot at idle in gear 950-1000 rpm. And 55-60 cruising 2600 rpm 50 mph

Maybe/Maybe not Depending on the bleed off at your rockers. If you have tight clearance then it will be minimal, looser; pressure change will be more noticeable, it'll be higher. Anytime you have tighter clearances or add restrictors to a hydraulic system, the pressure will rise with all else equal.
So if you have worn rocker system then adding restrictors should raise the gauge pressure and move the oil to places with less resistance. What this is telling you is; time to check out your rockers...JMO.

i dont know why and i have switched them back and forth three times but my stock adj rockers hold 10-15 more psi than my brand new harland sharps.stock goes straight to 80 and the hs rockers go straight to 65-70.so i know the rockers can effect the oil pressure but you would think the new hs would hold better pressure than the old adjustables

I wouldn't think that, I'd expect the HS's to be worse when hot. Aluminum grows differently than the shafts. But what do I know, just a gut feeling :P

Very wide spread, from 5 hot to 85 hot.
