Title: Gear Vendor Overdrive- Tested and works great
Post by: 2ndgear on July 15, 2017, 09:32:39 PM
Ok I install a GV overdrive in my 69 mustang about a year ago. 445 stroker, 850 holley,294s cam,389 gear, big in and out wide ratio trans 4 speed, 28 inch. tire. After adjusting carb. to what I like and MSD dist. I finally got to take the car on a 250 mile ride today. 85 % freeway at 75 mph at about 2750 rpm. Car ran great and I checked the gas mileage and I got 14.1 mile to gallon. I think that is great and I am very happy with this combo. Before todays ride all the miles were around town and never had a chance to take it on a long ride. Mostly been raining here in WI.Though I would share this and a big thanks to Jay, Ross, 66 Fairlane, Barry and every one else on helping with the carb, dist, and GV.

That's awesome.  14 mpg in a 445 with a Holley 850 at 75 mph seems pretty dang good to me.   Plus, and maybe more importantly, it must make driving 75 mph MUCH more enjoyable.  3500+ rpm at cruising speed is pretty miserable, in my opinion.  2750 rpm is sweet.

thanks for the report.

Great to hear!

It's amazing to see how many more triple-digit miles you'll put on with an OD.  My car was a short tripper even with 3.70s and 28 inch tall tires.  Once I put the 4.11s with OD, to click off an hour or two at highway speeds is nothing (and in the hammer lane usually)

Great mileage for an 850 and healthy cam too, you must have that carb and timing in a real good place

I have 4.11's with 27 inch tires.   It flat out sucks on the highway.  65 mph is about all I can stomach for very long drives.  That's close to 3600 rpm for me, with "stall converter" slippage.   :)Yech!  I feel like I'm beating the engine to death for nothing.

Around town, however, it's preeeeetty snappy.
