Barry has two and doesn't Blair or someone else also have a book ?
If you bought one, which would you choose ?
-
Buy them all, books are cheap compared to what an engine will cost you.
-
For stock engine info: Steve Christ book
For basic performance info: Barry R's book
For intake/header/etc dyno info: Jay Brown's book
For historical info: Charlie Morris's books (there are a few)
-
Thanks guy's.
-
I can second Steve Christ's book. I have it and it's a good read for the novice like me.
-
Personally the Christ book is OK but I've found errors time after time. I like it for a basis of what to look for,
Just yeaterday I wanted to find the various FE & FT crankshaft casting #. It did verify what I wanted. Also wanted the C7TE and 3U codes as well as std. measurements.
I use it as a very basic reference. For more exact FE info I've got both Barry's and Jay's book.

I was very happy with Barry's book and would recommend it. He shows most all of the available aftermarket parts for the FE and details them nicely. Most of us don't have a stash of original parts so a good look at the aftermarket parts was a real plus. Also a lot of no nonsense straight forward engine building information. Great book at the top of my favorites pile!!

The pic of Barry on the back is kinda small though ::)
-
The book I got from Barry had a centerfold in it with Barry laying naked on a bear skin rug. I thought they all came that way, maybe I got a special deal?

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Too late, some things you just can't un-see ;D. I used Barry's book for my build and found it served me well. If you don't put FE's together every day it's especially helpful in areas where particular attention needs to be paid due to the nature of the engine. Sure am glad I didn't get the centerfold tho----

LMAO!!
I'm guessing he's already been blinded. No amount of laser surgery will correct this ;D

This was my centerfold in the Barry Book I bought,

BE AFFRAID, ....VERY AFFRAID ! eek ! :o
What's the differences between Barrys two books ?
Does one have more infomation on building the side oiler ?

One has not been published yet...
If I am able to finish it up (close) the second book will be more basic rebuilding oriented, covering the process step by step instead of the performance parts and combination structure of the first book. Essentially I follow a near stock 428CJ rebuild from disassembly to completion in increments with a lot of photos.
-
Wonderful, please let us know when it's out.
Will you have it on your website or Amazon etc ?
I'll order the first one today.
Thanks Barry,
Kevin

My ststement was about the 2nd picture not a 2nd book, I corrected the post.

The Great FE Intake Comparo by Jay Brown
Any lower cost than $38 (+) shipping ?
Any used or sell me your copy ?
Yes, I'm a cheap ass.
-
Jay bought a dyno
Jay bought 150 freaking intakes
Jay bought probably 70 intake gaskets
Jay built 4 different engines to test all those intakes on
Jay published the book himself, so he could sell you a $38 book that probably took 5 years of his spare time and this book literally GIVES away every secret, every tidbit of information he learned swapping 150 intakes (plus a bunch of headers and exhaust manifolds, carb spacers, etc) onto 4 different engines and dyno testing each one so someone could come onto the forum that he himself funds and whines about the cost of the book.
have a nice day.

LOL! Well, I only bought about 25 intakes (the rest I already owned, or borrowed for testing), but I'll bet I bought well over 100 sets of intake gaskets, and lets not forget a few hundred gallons of fuel and countless tubes of RTV ;D
More to the point, the reason the book is $38 is that it is 288 pages. Most automotive high performance books run about 150 pages, and cost $20. So, in this case you get what you pay for.
-
The book is well worth the $38. Maybe the free FEPOWER sticker was what drew me in. I should have bought it before my build.
-
I bought both Jay's and Barry's books.
The books and their contributions to FE's are appreciated. 8)

Chris, you're just mean. :'(
With my bad health, medical bills over 268,000, loosing 10k to my engine builder 9 years ago, but trying to gain my spirit back by finding away to build another engine for my 427 Cobra, please understand my position of being careful on how I spend money. I won't be building this time, leaving it up to a pro engine builder (at least a short block) So I don't need a book, but want Jays and Barry's anyway, so be a good boy. :P

Jay, can I buy through you on this link ?

Well, I'd better get a sticker, or the buy is off ! ;)
-
Steve Christ book is good to have if you do all your own work. It has been said Steve Christ identification chart was all the information Ford had to offer at the time. The incomplete and wrong information on casting numbers has no bearing on the detailed technical data.
Jay's book is a lot more than flow data. Page 230 + has interesting data on oil pressure and temperature locations and changes. Engine dyno and in vehicle set up complement each other.

??ME?? You mean Drew?
If I am mean for not wanting another George Costanza image scaring my eyes, then YES I must be the meanest, most ruthless man alive.
-
Sorry buddy, brain fart.
Yes, Chris ! (sorry,....had to) lol
And what's wrong with George, he's a great nerd. So yes, you are mean too !
-
Barry are you allowed to state how many of the first edition was sold, Im curious of the size of the market.

Yes you can, and I'll throw in the sticker - Jay
-
Great, my wife said she'll buy it for me on Friday, since you'll throw in the sticker. lol
(She said to make sure) lol
-
Just ordered Jay, cant wait to read it.
-
Not sure - - probably need to read the extra fine print....
I'll take a risk...since I imagine the data is buried in the publishing world's archives anyways..
More than I expected. Well over 10,000 copies.
Have not hit 20,000 copies so Stephen King can rest easy.

That's great Barry I would say that adds up to very successful for anything FE. 8)
