Hi guys something let go in my current 464. The motor is 8 yrs old many street miles lets say 10k, has 50 track passes plus the usual flogging it on the street. It has Eagle crank, Scat rods, CP pistons 10.5:1 .040 over, Erson rockers, Hooker 1 3/4 headers, 3 inch exhaust, Fidenza 13lb aluminum flywheel. Cam is similar to a comp 294 (custom grind by builder), street master port matched, Holly 850, Msd dist locked timing. Barrys Edelbrock heads pro ported flows 330 @.600. This combo made 415 rwhp at 5800.
What would I need to do to get to 550-600 hp on pump gas? I am assuming it spun a bearing at this point crank is probably toast. Block is good so are the heads. Lets hear opinions.

You want 550-600 at the rears? Or at the crank?
Seems like you've got all the right parts, minus the intake. Blair is having me run a port-o-sonic on the 482 motor I'm currently piecing together. It's at his place now, he's putting some kind of voodoo into it. My goal was somewhere in the neighborhood of 600HP here in Colorado at altitude.

Without buying everything new, I'd be looking for a portosonic or at least strip dominator intake, both will need port work IMO to get where you are wanting to go, I'd also take a hard look at the oregon cams #175 grind at a minimum for camshaft if staying flat tappet, if your wallet can handle the hit for a roller cam then Blair has a few pretty street friendly roller profiles he likes, I have one and it drives pretty nice in my stroker deal. I'd be looking for bigger headers, more carb if available, if your buying a crank I'd splurge for the forged 4.375 rpm crank also, more cubes the better. There now wasn't that easy for me to spend your money lol. Good luck getting it back together.

If you keep the Eagle crankshaft, I would suggest getting it magnafluxed to check for cracks. It seems they have a lot of problems with the FE crank, but not other makes like the SBF, SBC, or BBC. Joe-JDC

Not sure what you have for a ring pack - but a bump in compression, and some 1mm or .043 rings, coupled with a matching bump in camshaft would move the power band up and get you a nice piece of what you are looking for without spending a ton of dough. Does that Streetmaster have the normal plenum mods? If not you have a nice gain there - if its already done I don't think its holding you back all that much. Get that package to peak at 6300-6500 instead of 5800 and it will make more steam...

I agree that a well ported Streetmaster will not hold you back in making 550-600 hp, since Jay made 604.1/632.8 hp with my ported Streetmaster on his dyno engine featured in his Intake Comparo book. Joe-JDC

I have Jays and Barrys book I will have to look that over. I would like to keep it on pump gas if possible. I am not opposed to sending the assembly out of town to finally get what I want. My last builder talked me out of a roller cam because I would have to change lifters every 10k miles. He was right the flat tappet is fine the rod bearings are toast now. I think it might be cheaper to change the lifters.

Engine is done just got back from the dyno. Did a bunch of pulls each one was better than the last. 623.6HP at 6700 rpm.488 tq
537 tq@5800 when I get the build sheet I will post more details.

I finally had some time to look for my cam card.
intake exhaust
duration at .050 266.00 , 272.00
gross lift .690, .700
lobe lift .3990, .4050
110.0 centerline
110 lobe separation.

That should move the old girl pretty well and sound like a monster to boot.
How does this build compare to the last version?

Its a little less drivable, it lopes till 2200. You cant lug it under 2500 or it will buck you to death. The weird thing its so much louder than it was. It pulls really hard from 2500 probably way past 6500 but I have a 6500 chip in it. We went to 6700 on the dyno and it didn't roll off. I only have 200 miles on it. I need to jet it down AFR is like 11.5 cruising 13.5 idling. The opposite of the other cam basically that's all that changes except going to the Victor from a Streetmaster. The forged crank and 2 new rods should be transparent. They freshened up the heads and new springs for the solid roller cam. Rocker arms were changed to ball-ball and new cup adjusters. New Milodon oil pan instead of the cobra pan. Same CP 10.5:1 comp pistons.

so far it seems to be working ok, I havnt launched it yet though. I think I am done with the track maybe just mess around on the street.

That’s fine nothing wrong with that. I told myself that I wouldn’t bring the car to the track
partly because I can’t really afford for it to break due too college loans and the usual stuff. But went once and got the bug. Hopefully it won’t bite me in the ass.
