Curious if there is going to be, or if there has been in the past, a street cruise for the FE vehicles attending the FE Reunion. Is there a local cruise hangout, or anything like that? Trying to decide whether to bring my mufflers and street tires...
-
Never heard of that, but then I will have to bring mine too. I was going exhaustless.
-
No street cruise, and the only "hangout" I saw was at the motels. Everything is at the dragstrip, and I don't think mufflers are even allowed there 8)
-
The track is way outside town. I am glad your coming Jay. I finally get to meet to meet you. I was considering running open headers not for HP gains but to be able to tell my car is even running in the staging lanes.

I was thinking about doing the same thing, for the same reason. One of the biggest things that threw me off was wearing a helmet for the first time last year. I couldn't hear anything, at least how I was used to hearing it. It really threw me off.
-
There hasn't been anything like that and I've been there every year.
The track is quite a distance from where most of the motels are (Selingsgrove), way out in farm country, and usually the weather is crappy except for being 'decent' on race day.
Haven't heard of any 'hangouts' but I haven't gone looking for one, either.

And Jay, just an FYI if you weren't aware of it, the track is uphill, including the starting line. The car WILL roll backwards if you don't hold it.
At this point I'm still up in the air about going. The weather forecast isn't looking the greatest, but maybe that will change by then.
-
as of today, forecast is for 80 on Friday & 76 for sat. no chance of rain.
-
Ya, Beaver is just past "the middle of nowhere" :o.........so no cruising. You just get off the big road and start heading out into the wilderness and sooner or later you arrive at a little sign that mentions a drag strip.
Though I might remember to give Doug his ride in the Mack this year??? Too bad I don't have a big enough trailer to bring the black car too or we could play the bobsie twins again....

BTW, what are your traveling plans like? What roads are you taking to get to Beaver. There are good ones and BAD ones. I've been on the bad one before and you need to be aware of it. Don't just follow Google maps.........they don't care if you are in a big truck/trailer. There are some pretty serious mountains in PA.
-
If coming from the east and staying at one of the places in Selinsgrove, by far the best route is 80 to 15, then down to Selinsgrove. Just gentle rolling (big) hills and my truck handled it without so much as a grunt, hauling 9000 lbs, and it's just an old farm truck ;D But it's got a lot more torque than newer trucks.
Hopefully the weather will be as Shady mentioned. And I'll try to get my spot next to you again, Larry, if for no other reason than to get another photo-op with the dumptruck and semi. ;D
-
I plan to get in Thurs afternoon-ish. I'll make sure to keep an open spot. Not sure if we will do the front row this year agin or maybe back a few rows like we did years before. More directly behind the tower, in the rear row.
We go 80, to 99(State College) to 322 to 522 to 235. You DON'T want to come over Bald Eagle Mountain(on 45 and 235). This way is about 40+ Miles shorter then going out to rt 15. Only one hill to really deal with coming home just above Milroy on 322.
-
Probably coming in Friday morning.
Staying in Burnham - same place last couple years - easy access to freeway, but a little ways from the track.
Of course every place is a little ways from the track - although there is a complete small town "right there"...
And yes - there are some pretty good hills if you go the wrong way. The old Excursion was legged out at 4000RPM in second gear and nothing left at 30 mph on one spot. Courtesy of a relative who works at Ford I will be using something with a bit more oomph to make the tow this time. I promised to treat it nicely, but how can you tell if a diesel has a rod knock?
-
When we traveled from your shop Barry to Harrisburg we found
some hills :o. That U-Haul furniture van had to work
with the Model T in the back
-
Just wondering do you guys leave your cars at the track overnight or take them to the hotels. I am also staying at the Burnham hotel dont know if there is a big parking lot
-
I dropped trailer and left everything at the track. It is a very rural, non-urban area and nobody seems to mess with anything. Couple that with the fact that there are a bunch of FE guys camping out at the track and your car will be safe.
-
Excellent a bunch of FE guys drinking beers has got to be better than a guard dog. Unless of course he drinks so much he falls down.HeHe.
-
No street cruse but guys like to cruse the pit area. Best hang out was the tent for the brats and then at different trailers for some bench racing and brews. Larry I plan to get there Thursday and will park next to you and Doug again if that's OK, no car this yr so I can help you and Doug out if need be.
-

That's a bummer, Garry. I loved seeing your car last year, very old school cool.
From the lack of Jays response, I'd say he's thrashing to get one of his cars ready in time...because that's how he rolls...lol

You don't know how right you are! ;D
-
I'm trying to think which car is least hurt.

You can leave it at the track. We only demand you leave the keys with US. You know, just in case. Really, we wouldn't even THINK of racing, beating on, burnouts, donuts driving it around or anything like that..... ;D
-
Thanks Larry hey what's a couple of burnouts amungst friends
-
Well, in years past you had to start your cars during the night to keep the block from cracking from the bitter cold :o
In all hopes this year we might actually need the a/c to sleep comfortably in the trailer. ;)
Jay? Any updates on your trip? Sill deciding on which car to put the motor in???
-
lotsa time yet.

Bad news on my car, its not going to make it there. Last minute problems with the engine assembly have crushed my chances at what was admittedly a serious thrash to get the engine together and back in the car. I will be there with an FE Power space at the swap meet though, and to enjoy some of the racing...
-
Bummer, but that should give you plenty of time to work up to that last minute thrash for Drag Week. ;D
-
Well, glad you are coming anyway. 8)
-
Yes would of been nice to see one of your cars but it will just as good to meet you
-
Bring a helmet.
As bad as I am with the 4 speed you might be a lot better...

You guys traveling from the west through Ohio would want to fill up your gas tanks before hitting the PA border. Price jumps 30 cents or more per gallon when you hit PA.

X 2.
I'D be happy just to shake his hand and thank him. My personal opinion (which in most cases isn't worth much) but for once i think many would agree, Jay is one hell of a good guy. Not only just for all he has done and continues to do for the FE but more so as a person. He has a vast knowledge and is very humble. I think He's as good of a FE builder as anyone out there , if you ask the right questions he doesn't mind sharing things , always has honest and helpful opinions. I think one of the things i like most about Jay just from everything i have seen is that he isn't all judgemental and shows a lot of respect for the little guys (me) that are on tight budgets and have limited resources but still have just as much love and passion for the FE as anyone else out here. He Doesn't shoot you down or belittle you, act as if his way is the only way. Idk, i guess I'm just trying to say it feels like he has a little respect for the back yard shop or garage guys and maybe even one or two of our ideas. It makes a big difference when someone understands that there's ways of doing things without having the resources and make them work very well cause I'm sure at some point he has been there. The parts he makes on the other hand are top notch, at least the few i have my ands on and i have plans to possess several more in the near future.
So yes, i hope to shake his hand and thank him, the designer and fabricator, the builder and racer, and most of all the man.. If he's there Saturday then i plan on trying to make that happen.
-
Keith, are you planning on taking your car or just spectating?
Stop by my trailer and say 'Hi', assuming I make it there. Doing some thrashing to replace my steering rag joint in my truck because it was disintegrating. It wasn't looking good earlier, but now I think I can finish it up tomorrow.

Nice :o ::)
Must be to pay for the construction on Larrys' route...lol
-
I had really hoped to be dragging it along but I'm not quite ready yet. I woulda love to been able to embarrass myself but no such luck. Still waiting on a few parts and pieces . Me and a couple guys here got the track rented for may 17th so I'm hoping I'm ready for some shake down runs by then. Had panned to be there Friday and Saturday for the swap meet but i haveta work Friday on a rough in so ill be up Saturday morning. May still drag a few things with me or just come up and walk around. Had the wife with me last year and she wasn't and isn't in the best of health so i wasn't to sociable. She's staying home so ill be free to rove the pits. I'll be sure to stop by and say high this year.
-
Keith, I have 2 FT distributers in the truck and should be with parked with Larry and Doug. I`ll be around some were close. Garry

Sweet !! See you Saturday..

You know, PA is like OH......the highways are ALWAYS under destruction construction......
It is orange barrel season you know. Got to make room in the yard to put the plows away.
