Title: Scott Miller's Cougar
Post by: jayb on February 12, 2017, 04:30:01 PM
Jack Miller sent me this awesome photo of Scott's Cougar, leaving the line at last year's Drag Week.  Photo credit to some Drag Week participants from Finland:

Hope he'll be there this year; can't wait to see that car again...

That thing was awesome to watch. With better gearing, I wouldn't be betting against him this year, that's for sure.

Couldn't find photo proof but he had that box scoop or very similar back around 1988. That Couger was one of the Carcraft/Hotrod/ect pages I had tacked on the wall.

I'd be willing to bet the doors and all actuating hardware have been 'deep-sixed' to take weight off the front of the car.

The headlight doors are vacuum closed, aren't they?  I would say he was at zero manifold vacuum in that shot  ;D

Nice shot! I would like to see a picture of the scoop at "rest", I am interested in doping something similar as far as the scoop, I think I like it... but, not sure!

On my Cougar I have no vacuum and the doors stay closed, I can open them by hand and they will stay open. On the headlight doors... 67 and early 68 closed with vacuum, late 68 opens with vacuum. I will be finding out soon, exactly what all of that weighs, I have a plan and parts to remove some weight there.

Endurance beast!  That thing has been dynoed three times, chassis dynoed, track tested, and two complete Drag Weeks!  Here for a freshen up, but I'm almost scared to touch it, LOL.  All the effort Jack and Scott put forth with the vehicle sure does make the whole deal come together.  Barring the unforeseen, Scott will be back in 2017.

I have seen those scoops in several drag vids of late. Here:  http://stores.ebay.com/LETHAL-DEALS/_i.html?_nkw=lexan&submit=Search&_sid=106671804

The scoop on the car in the road trip picture is just a plexiglass cover to keep rain water out of the carbs. The scoop that he runs down the track was made by a company in Florida. Shucks can't recall their name but they done a good job making it. I could fine there name if anyone is interested.
