Title: Head porting
Post by: CDXXVII on May 10, 2012, 07:32:11 PM
I got an old set of LR 427 heads cleaned up and I realized that the exhaust port floors have been cleaned up a little. Also smoothing is evident around the exhaust guides. Is it customary to rework the exhaust only?

Just cleaning up the exhaust ports used to be a fairly common practice back in the '80s, around here at least.  I don't know if it was a widespread thing or not...

I tend to do both and back-cut the valves, the way I was told from Mike Ulrey "can't hurt"
