I'm putting a TKO behind my 445 in my 66 Country Squire with stock z-bar type linkage but it has the trans has the long shaft....
What are the pros and cons of having my shaft cut down??
What are the pros and cons of using an adapter to fill the gap??
Will I need a mid position shifter or will the rear shifter work?
Thanks in advance!

I had the shaft on my first TREMEC ground shorter, the shaft is hard like a crank shaft.
My current TKO is long with the matching bell housing.
I would use the adapter because IF you found yourself far from home you can have a trans shipped from Summit or Jegs if you had to have it. The short shaft may take longer.
With driver hot rods I try to use stuff that fits Mustangs and gasp,Chevies, less to no waiting if your out there.

I use the adapter and rear position on my 65 F100, it is really a too far rear IMHO.

The price is pretty much the same but I want to know if the clutch linkage lines up better one way or the other? I know I will need to cut my floor to fit the TKO but will the short shaft and no adapter make for less of a trans hump rise???

My adapter plate goes between the bell housing and the trans, so the clutch linkage would be identical to stock. I imagine any transmission tunnel interference would be worse with the adapter but I cannot directly speak to that.

I sell the input shafts ready to go. Takes 10 min to swap one out. Remember, the bearing retainer has to be modified too.
If you run a spacer, you have to worry about manufacturing tolerances for your bell, the spacer, and the trans.

Brent, do you need my long shaft back as a core? Do you need measurements from me or is there only two lengths that it could be?

No core and there are only two lengths.
