I am buying a new distributor for my stroked 390. I see a few different choices out there but what I need the most guidance on is a strictly mechanical advance vs. mechanical and vacuum advance.
can someone tell me the desired distributor and why?

If cruise fuel mileage means anything then get with vacuum advance. I use a Pertronix on one engine and an MSD on the other. The Pertronix will run without an ignition box and just drop right in, and can be had with a built in Rev limiter of desired. On the MSD I use a 6AL box. I like both distributors, the Pertronix is on my daily driver and runs well.
