Title: Price on 428 cj block ?
Post by: Galaxie352 on January 04, 2017, 07:54:18 PM
Hi. Wondering how the marked is for 428 cj blocks out there ?I have a block that i am considering to sell. My game plan was to build a stroker out of it and put it in my 65 gal. Well, with kid, house buying, another ford that needs money, some chevys that need money, a country that rising the gasoline prices to heaven, i think i will just be happy with my 352 :) have searched ebay and the web but cant find anything to compare to. I see that only the snorkel kit cost big money. This block have stock bores. And the maschine shop said that two of sylinders in the middle have bushings. I guess that will be number 3 and 7. The block are cleaned and paintet blue and the sylinders are honed. New cam bearing. Any idea of price range ?

Looks like spellcheck went crazy on your post. :D
I purchased a good block a few years ago for $600 in the US. I think that was a pretty good price and it's a good block. Have seen them today for twice the price. I'm sure the price varies by location also. If you're in a country other than US/Canada/Mexico there's can't be to many around.

I doubt price here in the USA reflects the value in Norway.

Here I have seen from $400-$2000 depending on a host of conditions.  (yeah I know I know, I missed out on the 428cj $400 block by being offshore and someone else showed up with cash in hand).

Yepp, crazy norwegian spelling  :D i paid around 900 2-3 years ago i think. Not many for sale here in norway tough. Would guess that one of these aftermarked blocks will be a better choice for stroker project, and sell the 428 to mustang guy.

Wonder if the new aftermarked block will affect the price on the old "exotic" blocks.

Yepp. Stock bore with 2 sleeves. I am sorry my bad english, tought the sleeves where called bushings in us. My direct translate from norwegian to us would be bushings :o. But yeah, 2 sleeves. Bought it from a mustang guy north in norway, who again had bought it from us. my machine shop said it looks like a good block. Would trie to take some pictures this weekend.

You don't need to apologize for the English glitches.
You speak a hell of a lot better English than we speak Norwegian. ;)
Sorry I didn't notice your sig with where you live in my first reply.

That is bit difficult those don`t come around much here(i`m in Finland).Anything below 2000e would be cheap from useful std bore block, but i wouldn`t pay much more than that(i`m always broke).I would take offers on that if some one really needs that its up to him and you whats the right price.

Nah, i think i can consider sell the 65 galaxie and then put some money in the 428, and then put it in my 55 ford crown Victoria. I think booth the baby and my girlfriend are staying. Somehow, she likes the snow pooring down :(

I sold an NOS 428 block for over $2k a couple months ago.  Don't let anyone tell you that there isn't a demand for standard bore 428 blocks (even sleeved).

Paid a grand for one a couple months ago. Very nice C scratch, std bore that could probably be used as is. Didn't dicker one bit, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have helped. Just glad I found one!
