Wow, very cool.
-
Now that's a cool piece, style points for sure. Don't recall ever seeing one, interesting configuration too... Wonder how good it was?
-
As i remember it. It works like the Axial flow compressor in a jet engine
It was limited in flow beacuse of it small size was only made in
one size But the idea was not bad

Can't help but think how cool that would look on a y block hot rod. Kinda '30ish.
-
I have a Rod with a Y-block and i can take one
as a donation/Christmas present ;D
-
LOL. Well looks like it's been done.

I would put 2" SU carbs on it
-
I do have an almost new one with a NOS FE intake manifold. This is my second Latham.
The first I bought in 1974 for $250 was for a Y-block and was the two carb version. Traded it for the 4 carb version and still have that. Still have the Y-block mounts.
I maintain a Latham Supercharger Registry and have documented about 100 still in existence, they are all serial# starting at 1000 and ending at around 1650 production ended in 1965.
Richard Paul bought the rights to produce around 1985 and moved production to SoCal. The new design is different and more for Tuner cars. I don't keep track of those. I've got lots of pictures of Latham installations. There were even Plenums with 4 downdraft carbs. I plan to build one of those. Here are my two larger pieces. The intake is not yet drilled for mounting the blower.
I'll post another comment with more pictures later.
As to Heo's comment about CFM, they do flow about 750 CFM at 5000RPM engine speed 30,000 RPM blower speed (yes 6 to one overdrive) supposedly @ 7 PSI boost.

I think there was a 64 Galaxie with a Latham blower and a turbine
engine in the rear end owned by some tobacco king for sale some
years ago
found it

About 10 yr ago I bought a Latham. It appears to be a late model as it has a 3 v belt drive with a banded belt and the inlet is not for a carb . I will post a picture for I.D. I would gladly take 10 K for it.... Joel??

I've got most of the literature scanned as well if someone would like to see it.

As I remember, there was also a version that used four side draft carbs and a down draft on top in the front. A '55 or '56 Ford used to show up with such a set-up, on occasion, at Muncie when I worked there.

FE Roadster, can you identify this Latham?
-
Royce: that is the new version of the Latham. Richard Paul bought the name and copyrights to resume production.
Notice the difference in the rings. The original version had large rings with a spacer between.
He moved the manufacturing to Southern Calif. from Florida in approx. 1981. The design changes were done to provide a new market for the "Tuner cars"
If you search on Axial Flow engineering you will find his web site.
My registry is only for the 1957-65 version, only about 650 produced. Latham was primarily a marine manufacturer of steering and driveline parts for boats in the Florida coast..
The prior post about the Galaxie === Tobacco Road Car. It also had the Turbinique drag axle.
